How a fake job offer landed me in k!dnappers’ den in Zamfara — UNIJOS graduate

A graduate of the University of Jos, John Arum Azi, has narrated how he was allegedly k!dnapped after accepting what appeared to be a genuine welding job offer.

Azi shared his experience during a testimony at a church in Tudun Wada, Jos North LGA of Plateau State, saying the suspected k!dnappers repeatedly contacted him and even sent him transport fare to convince him the job was real.

According to him, he travelled from Jos to Zaria, Kaduna State, on April 11, 2026, believing he was going for welding work. After arriving, he was instructed to board a motorcycle to a village.

Although he became suspicious during the journey, he ignored the signs because he urgently needed employment.

“They kept calling me, asking me to come and work for them. They even sent transport money, so I believed it was a real job,” he said.

Azi said he was later taken deep into a forest where he noticed armed men waiting. He explained that the abd¥ctors searched him, seized his belongings and forced him to wear strange clothes and a face mask before moving him through forest routes into Zamfara State.

“We spent almost six hours moving through the bush on motorcycles. There was no security anywhere,” he recalled.

According to him, the k!dnappers tied him up and contacted his family, demanding ₦30 million ransom. He also alleged that he was tortured and questioned about his religion during captivity.

“While they were b£ating me, I suddenly shouted ‘Jesus.’ That was when they discovered I was a Christian,” he added.

Azi said the k!dnappers later reduced the ransom demand to ₦6 million, but allegedly demanded an extra ₦4 million even after receiving payment.

He eventually regained freedom after spending 11 days in captivity and said he returned home tr@umatised but grateful to be alive.

Gov Fubara Reaffirms APC Membership, Dismisses Defection Rumours

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed reports suggesting that he has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he remains a member of the party.

Fubara made the clarification on Wednesday after inspecting the Neuropsychiatric Hospital and the newly constructed General Hospital in Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt.

He described the defection rumours as products of social media speculation and misinterpretation of events, urging the public to disregard the reports.

“I know that there has been a lot of drama in the media, with one story or the other. I am a member of APC and nothing has changed. People should stop using whatever situation they pick up from social media or their own interpretation of any situation to present me wrongly,” he said.

“I have not gone anywhere, I am still a member of APC and I remain a member. Whatever happens, what is most important is supporting the overall interest of the party.”

The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in the state, stressing that the protection of lives and welfare of residents remains a top priority.

He explained that the new General Hospital project was initiated to address concerns about limited access to quality healthcare, particularly mental health services, in the area. According to him, many residents previously had to travel long distances to access medical care, with the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital being the nearest facility.

Fubara said his administration decided to make use of available space within the hospital premises to establish a General Hospital that would serve Rumuigbo, Rumuola, Rumuolumeni, and surrounding communities.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress of work, he noted that the project was nearing completion, adding that it had reached about 95 per cent.

He described the development as the fulfillment of a promise and emphasized that governance should focus on projects that directly improve the lives of the people.

In a dramatic and defining political moment for Sagbama Constituency III, the people of Odoni Community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa state rose above sentiments, pressure and political expectations to openly receive, embrace and unanimously endorse Chief Hon. Patrick Epoweide Ekade during his grassroots consultation visit.

What made the moment even more significant was the fact that Odoni is the hometown of the incumbent lawmaker. Yet the atmosphere, reactions and overwhelming support from the people clearly revealed one thing the people are no longer interested in politics of entitlement but in leadership built on accessibility, compassion, impact and genuine connection with the grassroots.

Speaker after speaker testified to Chief Ekade’s selfless service across communities even without holding public office. One emotional testimony particularly moved the gathering when a speaker recounted how Chief Ekade came to her aid years ago despite having very little himself, describing him as a man who sees humanity before status and never looks down on people.

The people further acknowledged his visible interventions across the constituency from youth support schemes, welfare packages, festive season assistance, solar street light facilitation, community interventions and consistent grassroots engagement stressing that his leadership has already been felt without occupying office.

In his speech, Chief Patrick Ekade appreciated the people for their sincerity, trust and courage, assuring them that leadership must be about service, listening to the people and standing for their interests at all times. He pledged to continue fighting for the development, inclusion and progress of every community in Constituency III if given the mandate.

At the climax of the gathering, the people of Odoni unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Chief Patrick Ekade, openly endorsed his aspiration, and offered prayers for his victory at the primaries.

The message from Odoni to party leaders, stakeholders and the government was direct and unmistakable. The people want a leader they can see, reach, trust and identify with. The people want leadership with impact.
The people want Chief Hon. Patrick Epoweide Ekade and across Sagbama Constituency III, that voice is becoming impossible to ignore.

Atiku: "Zoning 2027 Ticket to South is a Gift to Tinubu"

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a strong warning against zoning the 2027 presidential ticket to the South, labeling it as a strategic mistake that could facilitate President Bola Tinubu's re-election.

In a recent statement, Atiku's emphasized that nominating another Southern candidate against an incumbent Southern president is historically unwise. He argued, “How can a Southern opposition candidate realistically unseat a sitting Southern president? To insist otherwise is to enter the contest already defeated.”

Atiku criticized the push for Southern zoning as “intellectually dishonest” and disconnected from political reality. He called for opposition parties to focus on building a strong national coalition rather than pursuing symbolic gestures.

Addressing the equity debate, Atiku noted that by 2027, the South will have held the presidency for 18 years compared to the North's 10, questioning the fairness of further shifting power dynamics. He also warned against “transactional political bargaining” and urged that principles should not be upheld only when they align with personal ambitions.

Atiku's bottom line states that, opposition leaders must prioritize forming a united front to effectively challenge Tinubu. The onus is now on them to decide if they want to make a statement or seize power in 2027.
