BREAKING: Timipre Sylva Quits APC, Decries Party’s Departure From Its Ideals!

Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources who is also a former Governor of Bayelsa state, Chief Timipre Sylva, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the party’s alleged abandonment of its founding principles and concerns over the conduct of the present administration.

Sylva, a founding member of the APC, announced his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the party chairman after consultations with his family, associates, colleagues and supporters.

In the letter, the former minister expressed disappointment over what he described as the “thorough” and “unrecognisable” abandonment of the ideals that inspired him and other members to build the APC.

He said he could no longer, “in all good conscience,” remain in a party whose leaders, according to him, operate on the belief that “all is fair in politics.”

Sylva also criticised the Federal Government, arguing that the administration formed under the APC platform had disappointed many Nigerians. He said he could neither see a credible effort nor any realistic possibility of reviving the party and its administration.

The former minister said he was therefore compelled to leave what he described as a “floundering ship,” expressing confidence that Nigerians would use the 2027 elections to “vote for Nigeria.”

In a significant aspect of the resignation letter, Sylva copied the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging that the agency had recently acted more like an organ of the APC than an institution of the Nigerian state.

He also acknowledged the possibility of increased pressure or what he termed a “redoubled witch-hunt” against him and his associates following his resignation, but said he was prepared to face the consequences.

Sylva concluded by reaffirming his commitment to Nigeria and signed the letter as Chief Timipre Sylva, former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.

His resignation is a major development within the APC, considering his status as a founding member and prominent political figure from the Niger Delta, and is likely to fuel further political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

BRUMUKE SANA FAMILY IN PERETORU-GBENE COMMUNITY PROTESTS, DEMANDS COMPENSATION FROM RENAISSANCE AFRICAN ENERGY COMPANY LIMITED OVER OIL/GAS MANIFOLD.

Members of the Brumuke Sana Family and the Peretoru-Gbene Federated Communities in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have staged a peaceful protest against, Shell Petroleum Development Company Limited SPDC, now Renaissance African Energy Company Limited, over alleged unlawful occupation of their land and non-payment of compensation.

The protesters said the land, measuring seven thousand, three hundred and eighty-two point right hundred and five square metres, hosts the Brass Creek Oil and Gas Manifold and Heliport.

The facility links the Tunu, Opukushi, and Beniseide Flow Stations to the Forcados Terminal in Delta State.

Speaking during the protest at the manifold, family representatives and community leaders accused the company of years of neglect and divide and rule tactics against the rightful customary owners.

Chief Ken Aguna and Mrs. Butter Felix-Anebi, a former women leader of the community, said Renaissance Energy has continued to sideline the Brumuke Sana Family despite several petitions to the company, Bayelsa State Government, the Police Command, the Joint Task Force, and other agencies.

According to the duo, for several years, SPDC, now Renaissance, has neglected and marginalised the lawful customary title owners of the said land, lamenting that they have exhausted their patience.

Head of the Brumuke Sana Family, Bonaze Maxwell Brumuke,, said he has endured court cases, financial strain, psychological trauma, and ill health in the struggle for recognition.

Speaking on behalf of the Amananaowei of Peretoru-Gbene Federated Communities, Dr. Timi Odikeme Okere (Foukeregha fouth), the Secretary to the Chiefs Council, Awulu Dumbo, and Chief Edward Ayiba said it is a common knowledge in the community that Maxwell Brumuke is the authentic owner and that there has been no contest over the land for decades.

Affirming the family’s claim to ownership, the Community leadership call on Renaissance Energy to, as a matter of urgency, reach an understanding with the family and pay adequate compensation in line with global best practices.

Other chiefs, including Chief Osadebe Okoun and Chief Tekearede Oyabrade, said the family has not been compensated since an assessment was conducted by Julius Berger in 1993.

They said, RAEC continued refusal to pay compensation, other royalties to the family and excluding them from development benefits is totally unacceptable.

The protesters urged Renaissance Energy to mend its ways with the Brumuke Sana Family to ensure peace in the area.

Some of the inscriptions on the placards include, "No compensation no work, give us our right, enough of Renaissance African Energy Company Limited divide and rule game amongst others.

However, attempts to get an official response from Renaissance African Energy Company Limited were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
