Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Bayelsa state chapter in collaboration with Bayelsa State Primary Health Care Board and other Partners have said National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDS) Oral Polio Vaccination Campaign in the State will commence round two of Oral Polio vaccine from Saturday the twenty-eight of June through first of July, 2025.

NAWOJ Chairperson, Mrs.Grace Orumieyefa in a statement says the Immunization is for all children under five years of age with the aim to protect and effectively fight deadly diseases such as Polio.

The statement says the Oral Polio vaccine which would be given two drops to a child is not harmful but is to save lives, calls on parents, caregivers especially mothers to make their children available for the immunization as it would safeguard children's health and wellbeing for a better society.

According to Mrs. Orumieyefa, Health care workers would be available at Health facilities, homes, Churches, Mosques, schools, markets and other places of social gathering to administer the vaccine.

The NAWOJ Chairperson who states that the vaccination is free, safe and effective also notes that it would reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases in the State, appealed to everyone to make the campaign a success.

*NAWOJ Bayelsa Calls for Collective Action to Address Environmental Challenges*

As the world celebrates this year's World Environment Day, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bayelsa State Chapter, has called for collective responsibility of individuals, organizations, communities, governments to protect and preserve the natural world.

In a statement, Chairperson of NAWOJ, Mrs. Grace Orumieyefa, urges governments and environmentalists to encourage individuals, organizations, and communities to address critical environmental issues and commit to positive change for a sustainable future.

Mrs. Orumieyefa who highlighted critical environmental issues such as climate change, deforestation, pollution, and biodiversity loss, calls for action to protect the planet, focusing on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience.

The NAWOJ Chairperson stated that citizens need to be engaged in tree planting, proper waste disposal, flood control, and drainage cleaning for a cleaner environment.

She emphasized on the adoption of sustainable practices, advocated for stronger environmental policies, support innovative solutions, strengthen collaboration between health and environment sectors.

Mrs. Orumieyefa who also called on Governments at all Levels to prioritize environmental protection through policies like green energy promotion, reduce waste and carbon pricing stated that government as well as environmentalists should encourage sustainable consumption and collaboration with communities and indigenous groups.

She said there is a need for more awareness and action to protect the environment.

This year's theme is “Beat Plastic Pollution" with the aim to raise global awareness about the harmful impacts of plastic waste on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health.

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bayelsa State Chapter, extends warm felicitations to Governor Douye Diri on his 66th birthday.

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Bayelsa state chapter celebrates governor Douye Diri's leadership, vision, commitment to the development and progress of the State.

Chairperson of Nawoj, Mrs Grace Orumieyefa on behalf of her members says Governor Diri's inclusive government has brought a sense of belonging to all Bayelsans, fostering harmony and peace in the state.

Mrs Orumieyefa commended governor Diri's efforts in promoting unity, peace in the region, pray for God's wisdom, guidance and protection as he continues to lead the state to great height.

The statement notes that governor Diri's people-oriented policies and programs have improved the living conditions of the citizens, making him a quintessential Niger Delta leader.

BAYELSA NAWOJ CALLS FOR JOINT EFFORTS IN PROTECTING THE NIGERIAN CHILD.

Bayelsa State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has joined the rest of the world to celebrate the International Children’s Day, recognizing the importance of nurturing, safeguarding and
advocating for policies and practices that support their development.

In a statement, State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Mrs. Grace Orumieyefa, said that parents are expected to support their children's rights and well-being, as the day focuses on ensuring that all children have access to education, healthcare, and protection from harm.

Mrs. Orumieyefa said checkmating children's activities could be achieved through events that allow them to share their voices, experiences, talents and promote their creativity.

She called on all stakeholders in the children's ministry, parents, civil society groups and organizations to collaborate with government at all levels to create a more child-friendly world and also to organize activities that foster a sense of belonging for children, especially those who may be marginalized or disadvantaged.

Mrs. Orumieyefa noted that although, the International Children’s Day is celebrated on different dates in various countries, Nigeria, set aside twenty-seventh of May annually to celebrate the well-being of children through education and skill development.

She stated that NAWOJ is committed to celebrating the potentials of children to shape a better future and called for actions that ensure they grow up in safe, healthy, and supportive environments.

This year’s theme for the International Children's Day is "Our Children, Our Future," emphasizing the importance of amplifying children's voices through social media.

The day highlights the importance of protecting and promoting the rights of children everywhere and also serves as a reminder of the need to address the challenges that children face, including poverty, lack of access to education, and exposure to violence or exploitation.

Chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ Bayelsa state chapter, Mrs Grace Orumieyefa has urged parents to take the upbringing of the Boy child seriously as their well being is vital in building a stable society.

Mrs. Orumieyefa made the call when the Association celebrated the international day of this year's boy child day at the NUJ Press Centre Ekeki, Yenagoa design to tackle the challenges and aspirations of the boy child.

The Nawoj chairperson who calls for more attention on boys development and warns against neglect, said it would undermine society's treat as the boy child needs the tools they require and to be mentored like the girls at home.

She thanked the boys who attended the program and other attendees for coming stressed that much concern is being given to the girl child in terms of moral behaviour with less concern for the boy who will be a future husband to the girl and a better man in the society if nurtured.

Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State Chapter, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha in a remark encouraged the audience to be discipline, dedicated, appreciative irrespective of their family background and value who they are for society to value them.

Commandant of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Bayelsa State Mr. Erepa Poweigha advised young boys to say no to drug abuse.

Mr. Poweigha who spoke on the topic "
Enlightening the boys on the topic: "Drug Abuse" explained that drug abuse is the improper way of taking drugs which can change the mood or perception of an individual stressing that many Nigerians are languishing due to illegal drug activities such as co***ne, ma*****na and so on.

He urged the boys not to allow themselves to be lured to unnecessary journeys with people or believe on unverified promises to avoid being drug addicts.

Speaking on the theme of the programme, "Empowering Boys: Building Self-Esteem, Shaping a Brighter Future" Former Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists Comrade, Tarinyo Akono highlighted many ways of building self-esteem to include seeing failure as an opportunity to study hard and achieve set goals.

A health Practitioner, Mr. Ebiwoyengi Omun who spoke on the topic: "Health Tips on HIV/ AIDS" admonished the male children to take care of their health and gave ways to contrast and how to avoid the virus such as abstaining from s*x and the use of protection.

The event held at Earnest Ikoli Press Centre had students from Ebi-Favour Group of Schools, Isaac Jasper College of Education Demonstration Secondary School, Community Secondary School Agudama-Epie, Government Science and Technical College as well Nawojians children as questions and answers made the climax of the programme.

Gifts were awarded to the top 15 students who impressively summarized the presentations of the resource persons, highlighting the program's impact on empowering the boy child.
