IGP orders tight security as retired officers begin nationwide protest

Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun has directed all Commissioners of Police across the country and in the Federal Capital Territory to provide maximum security for the planned peaceful protest by retired police officers.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Olumuyiwa Adejobi cautioned against the spread of misinformation surrounding the protests scheduled to be held nationwide today.
Mr Adejobi said that some narratives were being deliberately twisted to discredit the Federal Government and undermine the current leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to him, successive IGPs had backed the agitation, but progress had been hindered by statutory limitations, inter-agency complications, and fiscal constraints.

Bayelsa Deputy commends Christian Council of Nigeria for propagating Christ’ teachings.

The Bayelsa State Government has lauded the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), South-South zone, for its commitment to spreading Christian teachings and supporting victims of natural disasters through humanitarian efforts. This commendation was given by Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo during a courtesy visit by the CCN delegation to Government House in Yenagoa. He praised the council’s willingness to support the state’s development agenda and congratulated the newly elected zonal executives on their appointment, encouraging them to build upon the successes of their predecessors and lead with integrity.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo also addressed the broader role of the church in society, expressing concern that many churches are not doing enough to support the less privileged. He criticized the trend of placing material demands on congregants, urging churches to rely on voluntary donations instead. Furthermore, he cautioned against the growing emphasis on materialism within the church, reminding religious leaders of the biblical principle to prioritize spiritual growth, as captured in the scripture: “Seek first the kingdom of God and all other things shall be added unto you.”

During the visit, CCN leaders, including National General Secretary Right Reverend Evans Onyemara and South-South Zonal Chairman Reverend Jonathan Ihwighwu, highlighted the council’s dual focus on evangelism and humanitarian work. They reiterated the 2022 resolution to establish an Institute of Church and Society in the South-South region and appealed to the state government for land to build a national research institute in Bayelsa. The delegation, which included bishops from various states in the zone, also offered prayers for Governor Douye Diri, Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo, and the people of Bayelsa.
