BAYELSA DILAPIDATED ROADS
Yenogoa Residents, Business Owners Send Sos To State, FG Over Failing Okaka Road

Residents and business owners along the popular Okaka Road in Yenagoa are calling for urgent government intervention over its deplorable condition.
They say the road has become a nightmare, crippling businesses and cutting people off from essential movement.
With key facilities such as the Nigeria Correctional Centre located in the area, they believe the road should not have been allowed to deteriorate this badly. .

For shop owners like Mr. Nimibofa Paul and Mrs. Betty Azikiwe, Okaka Road has become more of a burden than a blessing.
They complain that customers hardly come around because of the bad road—resulting in low sales and difficulty in renewing shop rents, while government taxes still roll in.

OTHER residents say whenever it rains, the road becomes completely impassable, as tricycles, which are their major means of transport, can’t move.

Over the years, private individuals, schools, and hotels in the area have tried to ease the situation by pouring stones on the road, but these efforts only provide temporary relief as vehicles still suffer damage, and the community continues to bear the brunt.
Residents and business owners in Okaka are once again appealing to the Bayelsa State Government and the Federal Government to urgently fix the road and restore normalcy to the area.

We Made Teachers Bêggars… and now we’re Paying the Price.

They once stood tall with chalk in hand—now they bend low with bowls, begging to survive.

We strïpped them of dignity.

We mõcked their tãttered clothes.

We turned a noble profession into a national shãme.

At every PTA meeting, we ãrgued about paying them well.

We expected them to teach with passion on an êmpty stomach.

Now, most of the best minds avoid the classroom.

They choose tech, trade, and even TikTok—but not teaching.

Our children sit before those who never wanted to be there.

Some teachers now double as Okada riders.

Some sell second-hand clothes during and after school hours.

Some can't afford their own children's school fees.

We see them trekking long distances.
We pretend not to notice.

The same teachers who shaped our paths now sleep hüngry.

But we still demand miracles in our education system.

Let’s not pretend—we did this.

By nêglecting them, we built a generation that lãüghs at books.

By underpaying them, we raised yout

Clergy in Yenagoa urge Christians to embrace the spirit of praise and worship

In Yenagoa, some Christian leaders and worshippers are sharing their personal experiences on the power of praise and worship. To them, it is more than just singing in church—it is a deep spiritual expression that draws people closer to God and strengthens their faith. They are encouraging Christians at all levels to embrace this practice as a way of life.

For Pastor Moses Etume and Pastor Desmond Egbor, praise and worship are not just rituals, but moments that move the hand of God. They recall the biblical story of Paul and Silas, who sang praises even in prison, and were set free by divine intervention.

Adding their voices, Pastor Izibekien Jollyman and Minister Destiny Sunday explain that praise and worship go beyond music it can uplift the spirit, build community, and create a sense of intimacy with God. They believe Christians should see it as a daily lifestyle, not just a Sunday routine.

For many in Yenagoa, praise and worship are a source of strength, joy, and spiritual renewal. And as the clergy advise, choosing to worship at all times could make the difference in how people experience their faith and connect with God.

FIGHTING INSECURITY
Police Urges Partnership With Media To Ensure Nigeria

As security agencies continue to work towards addressing insecurity across the nation, the Nigeria Police Force Zone 16 is urging journalists to see themselves as partners—not rivals—in the quest for a safer society.
Such partnerships he said, would ensure that threats to the nation’s security are addressed collectively.

At the Zonal Command Headquarters in Yenagoa, Assistant Inspector General of Police Johnson Oluwole Adenola received members of the United Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ.
His message was clear: both the police and the press share a common goal—to serve and protect society.

Supporting the call, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gunn Ewhoborwo Emonena, emphasized that constructive reportage builds trust and strengthens the bond between citizens and security agencies.

For the visiting journalists, the engagement was more than a courtesy call.
It was a reminder of the responsibility the media carries in nation-building.
As insecurity persists across the country, both the police and the press agree that collaboration—not confrontation—remains the surest way to restore trust and ensure public safety.

PRESS RELEASE

RE: NBA DRAGS IGP TO COURT OVER TINTED-GLASS PERMIT POLICY

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has noted a publication in The Punch newspaper of 5th September, 2025, reporting that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has dragged the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to court over the tinted-glass permit policy. It is necessary to set the record straight and provide clarity to Nigerians on the legality of the issuance of tinted-glass permits by the Police.

Section 2(3a) of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004, empowers the IGP, or any person duly authorised by him, to grant or approve such permits. In addition, Section 1(2) of the same Act stipulates that an applicant must demonstrate good cause—either on health grounds or for security reasons—before approval can be granted. This regulation aligns with the Police’s mandate to prevent crimes, as the permit serves as a vital tool in combating kidnapping, armed robbery, terrorism, and “one chance” operations.

It is equally important to clarify that the charges attached to the acquisition of tinted-glass permits are strictly processing fees. These cover the maintenance of the digital infrastructure deployed for the service. This is lawful, as provided under Section 26(e) and (f) of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020, which authorises the Police to render specialised services to the public at a fee.

Notably, the Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) has recorded remarkable successes, enabling the tracing and recovery of numerous stolen vehicles nationwide. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of modernised police specialised services in line with global best practices.

The Force, therefore, categorically states that claims suggesting that the tinted-glass permit policy is illegal, non-transparent, or unconstitutional are false, misleading, and aimed at undermining the integrity and lawful operations of the Nigeria Police.

The IGP, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, reaffirms the unwavering commitment of the NPF to upholding the rule of law, safeguarding the rights of Nigerians, and ensuring transparency, professionalism, and dedication in the pursuit of a safer and more secure nation.
