“As sons and daughters of the Niger Delta, this Silver Jubilee presents an opportunity for deep reflection on the Commission’s unique journey.

The frequent changes in NDDC’s leadership has been a major hinderance to development of our Region, and I would like to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for retaining the current Board and Management of the Commission, as this has allowed them the time and resources necessary to achieve their mandate.

I commend the current leadership under Dr. Ogbuku, for its purposeful governance, people-oriented projects ex*****on and commendable community engagement initiatives. I urge the Commission not to relent, but to deepen its commitment to development of the Region, and inclusive governance.”

NDDC@25: Dr. Samuel Ogbuku Commends President Tinubu and Other Dignitaries

On July 12th 2025, about 10:00 am, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) celebrated its 25th anniversary with a significant plenary session that gathered key leaders and stakeholders from the Niger Delta region. The event offered an opportunity to reflect on the Commission's journey so far and explore strategic plans for its future and that of the region.

Distinguished attendees included Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu), Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Regional Development Abubakar Mommoh, former President Goodluck Jonathan, among others.

Speaking during the event, Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NDDC, emphasized the agency’s developmental strides and ongoing dedication to improving the region. He noted that over the past 25 years, NDDC has recorded notable progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment. Key accomplishments include:

- Infrastructure: Completion of critical projects like the 27.5km Ogbia-Nembe Road in Bayelsa and the 600m Ibeno Bridge in Akwa Ibom.

- Electricity: Launch of major power initiatives such as the 45km 33KV line from Omotosho Power Station to Okitipupa (Ondo State) and the 15MVA Amufi substation in Edo State.

- Healthcare: Establishment of 142 well-equipped health centers and a revitalized free healthcare program, which has enabled over 20,000 surgeries and supported 45,000 patients.

- Education:Renovation of schools, provision of educational materials, and an expanded Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship Programme benefiting more than 2,300 students.

Additionally, the NDDC Boss also commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and others. In his words:

of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Mommoh, former President of Nigeria,
H.E. Goodluck Jonathan, serving governors from NDDC mandate states, former NDDC Chairmen and Managing Directors; youth
representatives, community groups and other stakeholders for their commitment to the region’s development."
