Adamawa Assembly Confirms Members of State Judicial Service Commission, Considers Bill on Emir and Chief Succession

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Danladi Muhammad, Barrister Hassan Mai Dawa, and Mrs. Merry Kadzai as members of the Adamawa State Judicial Service Commission.
The confirmation followed the presentation of a report by the House Committee on Judiciary and Entrepreneurship Development, chaired by Mohammed Buba Jidjiwa, member representing Jada/Mbulo constituency.
During Tuesday’s plenary, members of the House, supported the adoption of the report, stating that the nominees possess the competence and experience required to serve on the commission, citing their proven track records.
The member representing Mayo Belwa constituency, Musa Kallamu, moved the motion for the adoption of the committee’s report, which was unanimously endorsed by the House.
Following the decision, Speaker of the Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the resolution to the state executive for further action.
The Adamawa State Judicial Service Commission is responsible for advising the Governor on judicial appointments, discipline, and other matters concerning the judiciary in the state.
Meanwhile, the House also deliberated on a bill sent by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri seeking to amend existing laws to empower the Governor to appoint a prince from the ruling houses to act in place of an incapacitated Emir or Chief during the period of incapacitation.
The public hearing on the bill was aimed at enabling the ad-hoc committee on Emirs and Chiefs, constituted by the Speaker, Bathiya Wesley, to collect inputs from relevant stakeholders across all Emirates and Chiefdoms in the state regarding the proposed amendment.
At the hearing session, submissions were received from the Adamawa Emirate Council, Bachama Traditional Council, Batta Traditional Council, Adamawa Concerned Citizens.
