"UNEMPLOYMENT AMONG GRADUATES IN NIGERIA "
Unemployment among graduates in Nigeria is rising at alarming rate. The number of graduates is also increasing. Ranging from secondary school leavers, undergraduate, and post graduates.
Nigerian universities produce thousands of graduate with various field of study yearly. Unfortunately, these graduates with full potentials will still be unemployed or underemployed including those that come out of the professional lines.
Unemployment is a situation in which people do not have job, or someone does not have job. Unemployment occur when workers who want to work are unable to find job. Also unemployment is a term referring to individuals who employable and seeking a job but are unable to find a job. In general, unemployment occur when individual that is within the labor force is not working. It is measured by dividing the number of unemployed people by the total work force which is known as "unemployment rate".
However, is not possible to write on unemployment without chirping in the concept of "Underdevelopment". In the case of Underdevelopmen, it refers to a situation where individuals who within the labour force are employed below their working capacity or are been paid less than what they deserve. Simply, Underdevelopment occur when workers are not working in their full capacity.
In the case of Nigeria, graduates are either unemployed or underemployed. Where you can see a first class graduate un a primary school receiving a monthly salary of less than #20,000, talk more of allowanc and this is not suppose to be so. That is whyafter graduation some graduates do not think of applying government work because, government work now adaysis"who you know" they say "if you don't have connection " you won't work in government ministrie except if you are "very lucky" this is not how it suppose to be. Government work suppose to be based on tour grade or experience not "connection ".
High crime rate is one of the major causes of unemployment in every setting, and no body will argue that nugeria among other nations is also battling with its high level if insecurity.
At the end, I will like to call on the attention of the federal, states, and local governments to provide adequate employments, if not for all, but for almost all the school graduates to reduce the high level of unemployment in the country. Also, private organizations through establishment of industries will also help to curb the level of unemployment.
