Why Zuru Emirate Will Vote For Nasir Idris Again
…Emir of Zuru

If Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi state decides to vie for re-election in 2027, the people of Zuru Emirate have pledged their total support for the bid.

The Emir of Zuru Major General (Retd) Mohammed Sani Sami who gave this assurance said this support is based on the Governor’s strides in fast tracking the development of infrastructure in Zuru Emirate and the state at large.

He noted, while receiving the Commissioner of Information and Culture Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK in his palace today, that no governor in the history of Kebbi state had done in eight years as much as Dr Idris has achieved under two years and is still doing for Zuru Emirate.

He remarked that before Dr Idris’s assumption of office, Zuru Emirate had given up hope of any solution to the insecurity that had bideviled the area resulting in the loss of many lives, livestock and farmlands to the marauding band of bandits.

“Farmers had abandoned their farmlands, many markets stopped holding and quite a number of young men had been kidnapped and enslaved by the bandits” the Emir recalled.

On coming to office, he added, Dr Idris worked hard and found a solution and today all farmers have returned to their farms leading to a bumper harvest last year.

He said that the Koko/ Zuru road which has remained dilapidated and forgotten thereby cutting off Zuru Emirate from the rest of the country has already been reawarded to three competent companies. He assured that the construction of that road alone is enough a good work for the people of Zuru Emirate to reward the governor with their total support.

Major General Sani Sami commended the Governor for treating all parts of the state equally by spreading development to all the nooks and crannies of the state. He accordingly urged the Governor to see his re-election as a foregone conclusion.

Responding, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed who led some visiting journalists to the Palace on a working tour, praised the Emir for always standing by the government of Dr Nasir and for his very valuable advices on the way forward for Kebbi state.

He said the prayers and support of the people have always guided the Governor in his desire to see that Kebbi becomes fully developed. “More dividends of democracy by the Dr Idris administration are in the pipeline. What’s required is for the people to continue to support the government by cooperating with it to make Kebbi better for all residents”.

Under two years, the Commissioner further said, the Governor has done what looked like an impossibility and it is looking like this is just the beginning of many good things to come. He said at last, God has answered the prayers of the people of Kebbi state for a leader with the patriotism, courage, vision and love for the people to steer the affairs of the state and bring the much needed development.
Souvenirs usually prepared for visitors were given to the members of the team through the Commissioner.

IM Magami: The Promotion of A Humble Academic

By Habibu Bawa

One of the most exciting academic news of 2025 is the promotion of Dr. Ibrahim Muhammed Magami to the prestigious rank of Professor at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS). This promotion, approved by the university's governing council few days ago had been eagerly anticipated for nearly 16 months.

Although, I was not fortunate to be one of his direct students at the UDUS School of Matriculation Studies, I admired his teaching style from afar during my BIO101 and BIO102 days, these foundational courses in biology were widely associated with Dr Magami and his other colleagues like Dr Gummi, among students of Faculty of Science and other science-based faculties. Overtime, my admiration grew from a distance into a closer mentor-mentee relationship, particularly during my final year. This was largely due to my frequent visits to his office alongside my late friend, Abubakar Argungu, as we sought his guidance for our undergraduate project and activities within the Zuru Emirate Students' Association.

During those visits, I was deeply impressed by his humility, vast knowledge, and ability to simplify complex biological concepts. Despite his many responsibilities , he was always available to assist students, offering practical solutions to research challenges. He was in fact, the first person to introduce me to the idea of transforming an undergraduate project in to a publishable academic essay, a skill that has since proven invaluable.

Professor Magami's impressive academic credentials speak for themselves: three distinguished degrees in Biology and Hydrobiology from the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto and Bayero University Kano complemented by the Ahmadu Bello University's Postgraduate Diploma in Education. His contributions extend far beyond the lecture hall. Over the years, he has nurtured the intellectual growth of countless students, officially supervising eighteen MSc thesis and two PhD dissertations while unofficially helping a countless others.

Since joining the university in 2006, he has served with distinction in various administrative roles, including Staff Adviser, Level Coordinator, Course Coordinator, and Examination Officer at both departmental and faculty levels. He additionally served as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Life Sciences, a testament to his unwavering dedication and exceptional leadership.

As a researcher, Professor IM Magami has made remarkable contributions to the field of general and applied Hydrobiology, with 58 peer-reviewed publications in renowned academic journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings. His research is widely cited, reflecting his influence in the scientific community.

Beyond academia, he is also active in community service. He currently chairs the PTA Committee of the Federal Science College Staff School Sokoto and holds the revered title of Matawallen Magami, which connects him to his roots in Magami village, Danko Wasagu Local Government of Kebbi state.

Meanwhile, to further understand his impact, I reached out to some of his former students, and their responses highlighted the profound role he played in shaping their academic journeys.

Hassan Temitope, a 2017 graduate of Education Biology, recalled:
"As an education student majoring in biology, I vividly remember him teaching Hydrobiology in my final year. He did so well in handling the practical aspects, particularly during our sessions at Kwakwalawa River. As a lecturer, he was highly approachable and always willing to help students with their academic concerns—that easily made him the face of Biological Sciences Department, so to say, during our time."

Similarly, Muhammad Al'amin, another 2017 graduate of Biological Sciences, shared:
"He has a unique ability to connect with students, particularly those committed to their studies, despite his tough and uncompromising standard. His teaching skills were exceptional, and he taught us Hydrobiology, Chordates, and some other courses. On a personal level, I still maintained a strong relationship with him even after years of graduating, and we continued to stay in touch, much like a mentor and mentee relationship."

Further endorsements poured in from Dr. Kabiru Kele (University of Abuja), Dr. Maikasuwa Hassan (Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, VOM), and Yunusa Yusuf Pai (Mewar University), each echoing sentiments of his jovial personality, unwavering motivational support, and exceptional scholarship. Their testimonies paint a vivid portrait of a truly exceptional educator and mentor.

While the rewards of teaching may ultimately be celestial, we celebrate Professor Magami's well-deserved earthly recognition. His promotion is not just a personal triumph; it's a testament to the power of dedication, mentorship, and a lifelong commitment to academic excellence.
