“I think money is s**t. You know… how much you spend on a thing… If I spend a couple thousand dollars on sushi for two, I don’t feel guilty about that. I do find that my happiest moments on the road are not standing on the balcony of a really nice hotel. That’s a sort of bittersweet—if not melancholy—alienating experience, at best. My happiest moments on the road are always off-camera, generally with my crew, coming back from shooting a scene and finding ourselves in this sort of absurdly beautiful moment, you know, laying on a flatbed on those things that go on the railroad track, with a putt-putt motor, goin’ across like, the rice paddies in Cambodia with headphones on… this is luxury, because I could never have imagined having the freedom or the ability to find myself in such a place, looking at such things.
To sit alone or with a few friends, half-drunk under a full moon, you just understand how lucky you are; it’s a story you can’t tell. It’s a story you almost by definition, can’t share. I’ve learned in real time to look at those things and realize: I just had a really good moment.”

“Who wouldn't travel, if they could? It's unthinkable to me. Who wouldn't want to enjoy different, new sensations, especially when the world is filled with so much great stuff. I like new things. I like to feel good. I like learning about stuff. It makes me happy. I like being wrong about stuff.”

"I have a lot of judgments passed upon me.
A homeless person, a bum, a vagrant…
A tweaker…
A leech on society…
A no-gooder… Someone to fear…

These are all labels and ideas that people have placed me into as I am on this long walk.
I get it.
I’m a 38 year-old man, pushing a walking cart down the road, and occasionally sleeping in public places (like this park shelter in Cayucos, California to get out of the rain).

In many ways I fit the mental stereotype of a “homeless” person and there are certainly people that look like me that are doing drugs on the streets, making a mess and not contributing equitably to society.

But for those that choose to look closer, they see me for the full human that I am.
And many do look closer… In the last 1,350 miles, hundreds of people have stopped to talk to me and hear about my journey with great interest and inspiration.

And for those who look closer at our fellow humanity, they see that each person who is without a home is a full human as well. Each person with psychological struggles is a full human as well. Each person with a drug addiction is a full human as well.

There is no such thing as a “homeless” person. There are PEOPLE that are homeless.
People without homes are just as diverse as people living within homes.
Most people who are houseless, we don’t even notice, but rather we create a stereotype around the people on the streets who catch our eyes the most and trigger certain emotions inside of us. We tend to encompass all unhoused people into this stereotype.
There are many unhoused people who are of service to their community and stewards to the space they are in.
And in reality the humans making the biggest messes, exploiting the most resources, and inconveniencing the most people are leaders of major corporations and heads of governments. They just have an organization and structure that is accepted by society and operates behind closed doors.

I’ve chosen to live my life far outside of societal standards, so it is to be expected that many people will not understand me.
Long ago I decided to leave people’s judgments with them.
I take responsibility to live my life with a mission of deep integrity and harmony.
And others’ judgments are not my burden. That’s their mental stuff to work out.

And because I have love for myself. Because I have love for ALL people – what does it matter to me if people label me as homeless? It matters none.

However, I’m happy to be of service as a social reformer in this regard.
I do not fit into the boxes. I do not fit most labels.
Thus, when a mind focuses on me, critical thought often happens.
Critical thought leads to overcoming our biases, our delusions, our preconceived notions, our labels and our judgements.

My job here on Earth is not so much as to have the answers, but to stimulate the questions that result in critical thought and community conversation around a different way to move forward.

Love,
Robin"

As I walk from town to town, many judge me a "homeless", a drug addict, an up-to-no-gooder ... Here are my thoughts on these judgements...

Picked a hell of a day to take the ferry. There had been a lot of wind the day previous causing them to cancel all of the ferries.

On this day, I caught the only one which was delayed. First due to the high winds (sustained 50 with gusts of 70 mph) Second, because they decided (come hell or high water) to load this tractor trailer with a trackhoe on it. At first they couldn't load it cause the turn was too tight. Plus the ferry was bobbing up and down which didn't help. Then...they got it high-sided for about 45 minutes. They ended up using the trackhoe bucket to push it on while the truck was peeling out on the ferry itself.

This is adventure travel and it's what I live for. So glad I made the journey. Still loving it here on Ometepe.

Not just a chef or TV personality, but rather a philosopher. As I watched his shows incessantly as a youth, I just thought how cool would that be. Someday! I had no idea how much of what he said would come to be such a huge part of how I see the world. Now after my experiences these words ring so true. For this, he has played a huge role in who I am. I'm eternally grateful for the man, the myth, the legend...Anthony Bourdain

P.S. No need to understand the questions. The value is in the answers.
