Celebrating World Leopard Day with this gorgeous girl, queen of the Sabie river. I took these photos back in 2022 when I was driving from Lower Sabie to Skukuza. She was walking on the mainroad towards me, the rays of the golden morning sun on her fur. There was only one other car. What a contrast to last year, when I saw her again on the same road. This time dozens of cars. Too crowded for me so I turned around to head back to camp. While all the other cars stayed behind searching in the opposite direction, the leopard appeared right in front of my car. She had passed all the cars without being seen. Not a great sighting, but it was lovely to see her again, knowing that she still rules around the Sabie river ❤️

The Endangered Wildlife Trust's Livestock Guardian Dogs project is a very effective project to protect livestock and cattle as wel as save carnivores like leopards, wild dogs and caracals.
Through the project, guarding dogs are placed with livestock as puppies and grow up with the herd. This enables them to bond with the herd animals and thus protect them from carnivores that may try to predate on them. The provision of guardian dogs to farmers ultimately reduces and prevents the retaliatory killing of carnivores.

Despite the sad findings of this lion survey, I'm proud to have been part of this team 🙏❤️🦁 Hopefully measures will be taken to protect these lions better in the future 🦁

A new survey sheds light on the state of the lion population in Kruger north, revealing trends that could shape future conservation efforts
