Last week felt like a dream ✨
I had the honour of being invited to the prestigious Siena Photo Awards — a festival set in the heart of beautiful Tuscany, Italy.

With my photo of western lowland gorilla Awali, I received a ‘commended’ award in the Siena Creative Awards. 🦍💫

During three magical evenings of the festival, a breathtaking video was projected onto the Palazzo Pubblico and the Torre del Mangia. It was such an incredible honour to see my photo of Awali included in the show — lighting up Siena’s iconic tower. 🌙✨

It was truly inspiring to connect with so many talented and kind photographers — a community that lifts each other up. The Siena Awards team made us feel incredibly welcome.

I’ve fallen in love with Siena, a city where beauty hides around every corner. Grateful for the memories, the inspiration, and the wonderful new friends made along the way. ♥️

Congratulations to all winners — your work is beyond inspiring! 🙌

Lion cub crossing the road near Ngotso dam 🦁
I had the pleasure of following this lion family for a couple of days, a mother with a male and female cub, but part of a larger pride that hangs around the oneway road. This was my first encounter with them. Early morning, first at the sighting. They had a drink and returned to their impala kill

After an unsuccessful mission to find lions and wild dogs, I started making my way back toward Phalaborwa Gate. Along the way, this majestic bateleur eagle caught my eye, perched high in a tree. The setting sun painted a perfect silhouette and even in the shadow, this raptor is unmistakable. Absolutely one of my favourite birds of prey!

At the end of the day I found this stunning male lion on the road near the Babalala picnic site. Lots of cars passing by, rushing to exit at Punda Maria gate. He didn't care and refused to leave the road. The lioness that was with him felt less comfortable and moved into tall grasses. I quickly took a few photos before heading back to Shingwedzi camp, making it just in time before the gate closed

When on safari I am always on the lookout for something interesting to shoot with the setting sun. This is quite a challenge in Kruger National Park as you have to be back in time at camp and that is usually around sunset. Often I end up photographing a trer, but this afternoon I was lucky finding thos giraffe while driving back to Satara from the oneway road I only had a few seconds to snap a few shots, but I am quite pleased with the result for such a rushed photo 🦒❤️

🌍🐾 African Wild Dog Day 🐾🌍

With an estimated 6,000 African wild dogs left in the wild, they are one of Africa’s most endangered carnivores. Known for their incredible teamwork and strong social bonds, these painted dogs are vital for healthy ecosystems.

⚠️ Main threats:
Habitat loss & fragmentation 🏞️
Human-wildlife conflict 🚧
Diseases spread from domestic dogs 🐕

💔 Their numbers continue to decline — but with awareness, conservation, and coexistence, there’s still hope.

❤ Let’s stand together to protect Africa’s most endangered predator. You can help by supporting organisations like
and their team in their work to protect these incredible dogs

World Lion Day ❤️🦁

I was planning to share a lion conservation video with you today, but it wasn't quite finished and social media is already flooded with lion posts today, so I thought I keep it simple by sharing a photo of one of my most precious sightings in Kruger last year. Early morning at sunrise I was fortunate to find this lion cub north of Satara. I was the first at the sighting and with only one vehicle following me it was such a joy. Mum had just caught an impala for her two cubs. Little did I know that I would cross path with this family three times.

This is one of the early photos I took when I started my photography journey and it is still one of my favourites. It was in the finals of the Dutch National Geographic Photo Competition in 2017
Although it didn't win an award it was a huge motivation for me to continue with photography ❤️ This image will be available as a print soon when I open my new print store. Watch this space
