When talking about the greatest icons in motorcycle racing history, the name Eddie Lawson holds a special place among the legends of speed. Born on March 11, 1958, in California 🇺🇸, Lawson became one of the most elegant, intelligent, and successful riders of the golden era of the 500cc World Championship.

Nicknamed “Steady Eddie” because of his smooth, precise, and incredibly consistent riding style, Lawson won an incredible 4 World Championships in the 500cc class (1984, 1986, 1988, and 1989), earning his place among the greatest riders of all time. 🏁

The 2005 Spanish Grand Prix at Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto is remembered as one of the most iconic battles in MotoGP history: Valentino Rossi vs Sete Gibernau — pure rivalry, maximum tension, and a final lap that became legendary.
At the very last corner of the final lap, Rossi made an aggressive and controversial move, diving hard on the inside of Gibernau. Contact was inevitable: Sete ran wide into the gravel, Valentino picked the bike up and crossed the finish line celebrating, taking an epic and highly debated victory.
A move that divided the paddock and the fans: genius champion overtake or a step too far?
📌 Fun facts about the 2005 Spanish GP: – It was the opening race of the 2005 MotoGP season
– More than 127,000 spectators packed Jerez, heavily supporting Sete Gibernau
– Rossi started from pole position and won in 45:43.156
– Marco Melandri finished third and completed the podium
– After that final-corner clash, the relationship between Rossi and Gibernau was broken forever
– The podium ceremony was ice cold, and that handshake became historic
Even today, that final-corner overtake is considered one of the most spectacular and controversial last laps in MotoGP history.
