Agile: Individuals and interactions over processes and tools. But we love tools!?
The first value in the Agile Manifesto puts emphasis on individuals and interaction. Aren't we allowed to use tools and processes anymore?
Sure you can use tools, they just should not be leading you in the Agile way of working.
More and more people who start working Agile are looking for tools to make their lives easier. Especially digital tools like plan boards for visually tracking of tasks, their status and priority. And for example Planning Poker apps for estimating effort when working in teams. There are really nice tools available and they are getting better all the time.
As an individual you don't need Planning Poker, you could better practice Mind Mapping. Mind Maps can give you an idea of how much effort an activity or task would cost while planning. By splitting work-to-do into smaller units like activities and tasks you get a better overview of your work. Besides that you can give a better estimation of the time needed to complete your work because small units of work are easier to predict in terms of completion time. Using Mind Maps is perfect for estimating.
What about a plan board, is that useful for you? Yes it is! You want to finish your tasks and get your work done, don't you? Putting your work on a plan board makes it visible and when you use sticky notes you can move your tasks around and give them priority by placing them higher on the board. The higher the task is placed, the more important it is. Focus on finishing high priority tasks first.
But a plan board is big and it's hanging on a wall somewhere?
Of course you can use your smartphone and take daily pictures of your plan board, but wouldn't it be nice to have your plan board with you?
With the Agile Planning System Agenda you always have your Mind Maps, notes, drawings, contacts, agenda and your plan board with you. You can even use it in places where there is no electrical power or in situations where it is not appreciated that you are focused on your smartphone or tablet all the time. Remember, individuals and interactions are valued more than processes and tools.
When you go to school, college, a business meeting, an appointment and so on, just bring your Agile Planning System Agenda. You can open your agenda, fold out your plan board and discuss work with others. Everything clear? Fold back your plan board and you are up-to-date. Besides the plan board there are plenty of pages available for making notes so you can always refer to your notes history and make updates or create new ones. All work agreed and lessons learned? Put the delivery date deadline or the agreed review date in your agenda and you are all ready to get things done!!
