"In deze documentaire belichten de makers het recht op de stad voor de bewoners van de Baaibuurt in Amsterdam West. Het โrecht op de stadโ is een concept dat verder gaat dan alleen toegang tot stedelijke ruimtes, het draait om de collectieve macht om de stad vorm te geven en te bepalen hoe die zich ontwikkelt. De term 'recht op de stad' werd oorspronkelijk geรฏntroduceerd door de Franse filosoof en socioloog Henri Lefebvre in 1968, en drukt het idee uit dat stedelijke ruimte niet enkel in dienst staat van kapitaal of privรฉbezit, maar moet worden gevormd door en voor de mensen die er wonen, in het bijzonder gemarginaliseerde gemeenschappen. Het omvat rechten zoals toegang tot huisvesting, openbare diensten, vervoer, cultuur, onderwijs en groene ruimte, participatie in besluitvorming over stadsplanning en bestuur, inclusie in het culturele, sociale en politieke leven van de stad, en zeggenschap over stedelijke verandering (zoals het verzetten tegen verdringing, gentrificatie en de privatisering van publieke ruimte). Deze rechten golden (nagenoeg) allemaal niet voor de bewoners van de Baaibuurt-West."

"In this documentary, the makers highlight the right to the city for the residents of the Baaibuurt in Amsterdam West. The โright to the cityโ is a concept that goes beyond mere access to urban spaces; it revolves around the collective power to shape the city and determine how it develops. The term โright to the cityโ was originally introduced by the French philosopher and sociologist Henri Lefebvre in 1968, and expresses the idea that urban space should not only serve capital or private property, but must be shaped by and for the people who live there, especially marginalized communities. It encompasses rights such as access to housing, public services, transport, culture, education, and green space; participation in decision-making on urban planning and governance; inclusion in the cultural, social, and political life of the city; and influence over urban change (such as resisting displacement, gentrification, and the privatization of public space). These rights were (almost) entirely absent for the residents of Baaibuurt-West."
