Success at Māori Music Awards for Hutt musicians

The future of Māori Music in the Hutt Valley looks secure with two artists becoming second-time winners at the Waiata Māori Music Awards.

Amba Holly, from Lower Hutt, took home the Radio Airplay Song of the Year by a Māori Artist in Te Reo Māori Award with her song Mau Tonu, while Israel Starr, from Upper Hutt, won the Best Roots, Reggae Award with his album The Producers Chair Dancehall Vol. One.

Google goes big in Asia with mobile payment app for hundreds of millions of people

"Tez" which means fast in Hindi, lets users link up their bank accounts to their phones, allowing them to use the app to pay merchants in stores, and instantly transfer money to friends.

Google's app isn't just another of the many mobile payment apps out there. To make Tez count, Google made sure it worked with India's national Unified Payments Interface (UPI), a payment system backed by the government and 19 major banks in the country.

The Great British Bake Off is baaaaack! After arguably the biggest baking contretemps in British history not to involve a village show and accusations of cheating, Great British Bake Off kicked off its first series on Channel 4 on Tuesday night with three new presenters joining Paul Hollywood – Sandi Toksvig, Noel Fielding and Prue Leith – and shock horror: it was pretty lovely!

There were some early controversies: a lot of mentions of calories made people go "wuh?", Sandi didn't really get time to make an impression, and the show kicked off earlier than planned (more on that later, I'm still livid). However, the Great British Bake Off format can clearly withstand a change of hosts (although good grief the adverts in the breaks were terrible), and given that it's starting to feel a bit autumnal, it's a real treat to have the tent back, and especially 12 new bakers whose names we won't even start to remember properly until around episode three.
