On December 7th, we will release our second print edition during a launch event .

This second issue of Fikra Magazine is published during one of the darkest times in Palestine. And so, we dedicate this issue of Fikra to our brothers and sisters in Gaza, who pay an unimaginable price for our collective struggle.

📣 The deadline for our Call for Submissions has been extended!

For those who did not yet get the chance to submit their work to Fikra, you can do so until August 12, 2024 by sending your work to [email protected].

For our Print Edition 2024, we are looking for:

➡️ Arabic & English pieces
➡️ Pieces that have not been published before

Please read the following guidelines before submitting your work:

🧑‍💻 Essays & creative non-fiction: well researched or with an original point of view (3000 words max).

📝 Poetry: up to six poems in a single document.

🖊 Short stories & other fiction: between 500 and 2500 words max.

📷🎨 Visual art & photography: collections should not exceed more than fifteen individual impressions per submission. Please submit either JPG, JPEG, PNG, or PSD files.

⏰Deadline for submissions August 12, 2024

It requires incredible strength to remain steadfast while witnessing the genocide of our people. In his poetry, Sima’an wanders the narrow line between hope and disillusionment.

Khalil Simaan grew up in Haifa to a family of internally displaced refugees from villages in the Galilee, obliterated in 1948. His early poetry appeared in Al-Jadeed Magazine and Al-Itihaad daily, and more recently in the Palestine Chronicle.

On Sunday November 26 opens her doors for an afternoon of literature and music for a community overflowing with grief and flooded with hope. We will read poetry that holds the collective subconscious of Palestine. We will sing songs that remind us of the uncompromising courage of the Palestinian people. For six-year-old Wadea Al Fayoume, who was murdered in cold blood on October 14th. "Mamma, I'm fine" is a painful reminder of the blind hatred Palestinians have to endure.

Maya M. Murry is a Palestinian-American poet who immigrated to the US from Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. She studies Computer Science at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where she researches the intersection of trauma and public policy.
