The vibe tribe caught up with JEANP and ask him about his new debut album "Break Free" out now on Younan Music.

1- How long did it take you to write & produce your debut album "Break Free"?
-
The Album took about 2-3 months to write & produce,
Each track represents a certain phase or feeling I was going through personally.

2. What was the inspiration behind the album?
-
The “ Break Free “ Album was inspired by a period of personal and creative transition. The album reflects the process of letting go of limitations, expectations, and familiar patterns, and reconnecting with the freedom that originally drew me to music.

3. What production tools or plugins did you use most when creating the album?
-
When creating the album, I drew heavily from a variety of sample packs by artists I admire and wanted to support at that time, including Harvy Valencia, Ramon Bedoya, Angel Heredia, Chus, and Stefano Noferini. I used these sounds as a foundation and then reshaped them with my own processing and arrangement, adding my personal twist to create a blend of grooves and rhythms that define the album, but also supports the Label’s sound.

4. Any interesting (funny, shocking, crazy) story you'd like to share with us about this album?
-
At one point I scrapped almost half the album.
It was a different approach, & I wasn’t sure all the tracks would be signed, so I’m beyond grateful that they were, those moments are when I love what I do the most, when the music flows on its own. What started as a stressful moment ended up being the breakthrough that shaped the true meaning of “Break Free“.

We caught up with before catching a flight to ADE and asked him a few questions, in light of his new single debut "Antenna" out now on Younan Music.

1- what was the inspiration behind writing antenna?

With this one, I wanted to get something down that was dark & spaced out, truth be told I was thinking of aliens! The title was because the synth line sounded like a bugs antenna feeling around & soaking up information. Maybe bugs *are* aliens hmmmmmmmm.

2- what does your production process look like?

I work mostly in the box in Ableton & usually with all elements I try to key in by hand either with a MIDI keyboard on piano or my mini MPK on pads. I try to avoid quantizing since I think it keeps the feel human even when the synth designs don’t really sound that way.

3- if you can give one advice to up-and-coming producers and DJs, what would it be?

I think in addition just generally being nice to everyone from the top to the bottom, it would be learning to appreciate all the wins. It’s easy when they are big but even more important when they’re small because it internally reinforces how you’re always moving forward even on the hard days.

VIBE w/The Tribe

1- How do you handle creative blocks? Do you have any tricks to get back in the groove?

Sometimes i try to start new projects and experiment different sounds and techniques , or i like to go out and see international djs play here in montreal and go to my studio after their set that usually sparks back the fire

2- Do you ever take time to listen to other genres, or are you strictly into electronic music when you’re off the clock?

Yes of course i grew up with so many different phases of lisntening to different music such as , hip hop , house , electro, heavy metal , rock etc etc

3- If you could take one of your tracks and turn it into a movie soundtrack, which one would it be?

I think it would be my track "Roll Back" from the ep , the main guitar melody give me action movie vibes

Vibe w/the tribe. Get to know &

1- Favorite plugin?
Elias: hard too chose but right now it would have to be anything from arturia especially their fx series like fragments.

Wess: Favourite plug in for years has been the SubBoomBass by Rob Papen as it adds that deep low end bass that hit perfectly off any low end. It keeps it clean and it so subtle yet a must use for any track for years.

2- Most memorable moment this year? Elias: one of the most memorable moment for me this year was seeing Stacey Pullen play one of my tracks during movement in Detroit. He’s been a huge inspiration for me for ages.

Wess: Memorable moment that happened to me this year was when I got promo back from one of my EPs and it included a response from a dream artist/ label owner, who I then reached out to and am in the process of releasing that work now. I wish I could say who it is as it has been hard to keep this a secret, but it will be public knowledge soon enough!

3 - Other hobbies and entrance outside of music?
Elias: I’ve recently gotten more into fitness training and mediation / wellness. It might just be part of getting older a different stage of life lol but I enjoy it.

Wess: I love sports. Been playing since I was a kid. Currently golf is my fav sport to play. It is just great to get out there and think to yourself, while playing against yourself. Similar to music production. Just another outlet to express myself.
