The Dutch are high in audiences watching EC opening games of their football team.
Last Sunday the average audience of the EC match Holland – Ukraine was: 5,4 million (6 years and older). The opening match of the Germans and the French on Tuesday was viewed by 22,6 million Germans and 15,1 million French (4 years and older). The opening game of the Spanish was viewed by 8 million on average.
These are all impressive numbers, but when you look at the total percentages of these populations viewing their opening games, the Dutch appear to be the most fanatic viewers of their own football games until so far, compared to these large nations. And then the opening game of this EC had a 1/4 lower audience than the opening game against Spain in 2014 (WC Brasil).
With 8 million viewers on 50 million Spanish, the percentage of Dutch watching their opening football game seems to be almost twice as much as the Spanish rating.
Also, market shares were the highest in Holland: 80,4%. This means that 80,4% of all tv viewers at that moment looked at this football game. That’s also a lot higher than Germany (67,4%), France (57,5%) and Spain (48,9%).
So, at least campared to these 3 large football nations the Dutch are most fanatic in watching their opening games.
