OSCAR WINNING DIRECTOR KRISTÓF DEÁK TO DIRECT THE INTERNATIONAL FILM 'COOKING UP A COUNTRY'
Op woensdag 21 mei organiseerde Equs Film – in samenwerking met het Vorstendom Principato di Seborga– een feestelijk event tijdens het Filmfestival van Cannes. En daar konden we eindelijk delen wat wij al een tijd wisten: Deák wordt de regisseur van Cooking Up A Country!
Kristóf won in 2017 een Oscar voor zijn korte film Sing, en wij zijn superblij dat hij zijn talent nu inzet voor onze romantische komedie. De film vertelt op een luchtige, grappige manier het verhaal van Seborga en gaat over thema’s als identiteit, gemeenschap en ergens bij horen.
Tijdens het event maakten we ook het creatieve team bekend: met producers die eerder betrokken waren bij onder andere The King’s Speech Mark Foligno en de Nederlandse producent Sander Verdonk van de 'Hardcore never dies', 'de Oost' en 'Fabula'.
Een bijzonder moment was de symbolische overdracht van de “sleutels van het Vorstendom” aan Kristóf door H.K.H. Prinses Nina van Seborga. Een mooi gebaar en het startsein voor de volgende fase van ons avontuur.

“Cooking Up A Country”: director of the film revealed in Cannes.

The exclusive event organized yesterday, Wednesday, May 21st, by and the Principality ofSeborga on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival, was a great success.
The event celebrated a major milestone in the international film project Cooking Up A Country — aromantic comedy that, with light-heartedness and irony, will tell the story and values of thePrincipality of Seborga, offering audiences a unique narrative on identity, community, andbelonging.The official announcement of the film’s director was made during the event: Kristóf Deák,the Hungarian filmmaker who won the Academy Award in 2017 for his short film Sing.Deák has already been praised by international critics for his narrative sensitivity and hisability to blend deep content with a cinematic language that is both accessible and engaging.The event also introduced the film’s main creative team, including producers already knownfor their work on The King’s Speech (notably Mark Foligno), winner of four AcademyAwards, and Fabula, (notably Sander Verdonk) a recent Dutch box office hit. Their presence underlines the high artisticand production standards of the project.
In the presence of H.S.H. Princess Nina of Seborga, who symbolically handed over the “keys of the Principality” to the director, the event marked the beginning of a new phase of thefilm, following the successful assembly of the creative team.
“This ceremony represents a unique moment for Seborga, where our traditions meet the universallanguage of cinema”, said Princess Nina. “We are thrilled to have an artist of Kristóf Deák’scalibre leading this project, which will share the spirit and uniqueness of our Principality withthe world.”
Producer Muriel Horst also shared her enthusiasm:“With Cooking Up A Country, we want to tell Seborga’s story as it has never been told before:with irony, warmth, beauty and depth. The energy we felt in Cannes confirms that we are on theright path”.
Following the ceremony, a toast celebrated the official start of this new creative phase, sealed with symbolic photos featuring Princess Nina, director Kristóf Deák, and the film team.
The evening continued with a royal-style aperitif attended by international guests,including producers, artists, and members of the press. The event once again confirmed thePrincipality of Seborga’s ability to bring its vision and values to the international cultural
