As America celebrated its 250th anniversary, I found myself reflecting on my own family’s story 🥹

Long before they ever knew each other, my mom’s family and my dad’s family each made the life-changing decision to immigrate to the United States in search of better opportunities. Years later, their paths crossed, and eventually I came along 🤭

Having now lived abroad myself for the past 10 years across three different countries, I have an even greater appreciation for what it means to leave behind everything familiar and start somewhere new. Their decision to build a new life gave me opportunities I’m incredibly grateful for 😌

The video is of my dad’s family, filmed around the 1970s shortly after they arrived in America, and the second photo was taken in Boston during a press trip with United Airlines 😍

I don’t know who all the other families in the footage are but I love that this little moment was captured. Every family in that video was beginning a new chapter, each with their own hopes, dreams and reasons for going to America. It reminds me that every family has a story, and this is part of mine ❤️

If you’re catching the last ferry home, you’re missing the best part of visiting Rottnest Island 🙈 when researching, lots of people recommended getting the earliest ferry over and the latest ferry back to maximise your time on the island… but that sounded SO exhausting with a toddler 😅

So we stayed a night at on the island and it was the best decision, especially since quokkas are most active around sunset and overnight, which is something you miss if you’re only there for the day! 🥹

Most people see quokkas around the Settlement because they’re used to humans there, but we really wanted to see them out in the wild. As the sun started going down, we headed over to Garden Lake and there were so many quokkas to see!

It was really special getting to experience the island once most of the day visitors had left. And after a full day of exploring, it was so nice being able to wander back to our room, enjoy a glass of wine on the balcony, stroll over for dinner and relax instead of rushing for a ferry

In hindsight, our only mistake was staying one night! We spent so much time exploring Rottnest’s beaches and bays that it would have been nice to enjoy the beautiful pool and grounds longer 😍

They forgot to mention the deadliest one of all… 🥹

The only place in the world where you’ll find quokkas in the wild is Western Australia and getting a quokka selfie had been on our bucket list for years 🤳 safe to say they were so adorable and friendly ☺️

Cooler days call for cosy stays & woodfire dinners 🤎

Who else gets excited when the seasons start to change? Visiting Perth during autumn was so beautiful and relaxed ...and I may have been too excited to finally bring out the brown tones and autumn outfits 🤭

We only had a couple of days in the city and staying at made everything so effortless ☺️ crisp city walks, golden autumn scenary, hot showers with the luxurious amenities, plush robes and cosy dinners at where they specialise in woodfire cooking was just perfection👌

We knew we wanted to experience more of Western Australia’s incredible landscapes beyond the city, although I’d be lying if I said we weren’t a little nervous about how our toddler would handle the long journey and roadtrip days 😅 but with a little planning (and a lot of snacks, playground pit stops and carefully timed nap drives), getting to explore places like Elephant Rocks ended up becoming one of the most special parts of our trip 😍

Watching the sunset here with our girl, surrounded by crystal clear water and giant granite rocks, felt a little surreal, and somehow we had the whole beach to ourselves 🐘💙

These are the moments that remind me why we’ll always say yes to the scenic route 🤍

PSA: wisterias are blooming in London right now 💜

Look at how tall some of these have grown! Wisterias are actually vigorous climbers, twisting upwards towards the sun and can grow high enough to cover entire townhouses (which explains these insane heights 🤯)

One of the best places to see them is Notting Hill. The pastel homes and colourful doors make the perfect backdrop for all that lilac magic ✨I still can’t believe I used to live near these and spotted them on my daily walks 🥹
