"BLIKSEM is not the film I wanted to make. It is the film I needed. And now, it is a film that can offer comfort and recognition to others." - Aiman Hassani

Over the last few months, we’ve had the privilege of working on a deeply personal, brave, and moving documentary directed by long-time friend of the studio, Aiman Hassani. Produced by Rinkel Film BV Docs in co-production with VPRO, BLIKSEM (Lightning) is a vulnerable self-portrait about self-acceptance and resilience in the face of loss and clashing expectations.

As a Dutch filmmaker with Moroccan roots, Aiman initially set out to celebrate love and bring two worlds together. However, when his six-year relationship suddenly ended and his beloved cat Bliksem passed away, his planned future evaporated. When his father in Morocco became seriously ill, Aiman was forced to shift his perspective from what was lost to what could still be gained, opening the door to profound, healing conversations between father and son.

We were trusted with the sound design and mix for this complex project. Huge thanks to Mariana Dionisio and Kirill Den Outer for the sound effects edit, foley.

We worked closely with composer Jochem Weierink, who wrote an understated and haunting soundtrack, and we are grateful to co-editor Bobbie Roelofs and producer Julia Rombout for their dedication to bringing this film together.

BLIKSEM will broadcast on Sunday, July 12 at 22:40 on VPRO, NPO 2, and will be hitting the upcoming film festival circuit.

When two of your clients cross paths for the evening…

Caught the incredible Hildur Guðnadóttir and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra at the Concertgebouw for this year's Holland Festival.

Having produced numerous radio campaigns for both of these premier cultural institutions for years, it was a fun realization as we sat in the audience to experience a Holland Festival production inside Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

We are thrilled to have produced and recorded the audio tour and podcast for the Mauritshuis’s new exhibition: Pentimenti; Stephan Vanfleteren

As huge fans of Stephan’s work, it was a privilege to capture the essence of this project. A central part of the experience is the intimate, insightful conversation between Stephan Vanfleteren and Martine Gosselink. Their dialogue peels back the layers of the "Pentimenti" the hidden corrections and artistic choices made by both the Old Masters and Stephan himself.

Whether you're walking through the gallery with the audio tour or listening to the podcast from home, the audio adds a profound layer to these monochromatic masterpieces.

A big thank you to the talented team who worked with us on this one: Maaike Pilgram, Ivo Hoekstra and Lieve Boiten.

Visit the Mauritshuis to experience this unique meeting of photography and (art) history.

Hitting the road for an on-site mix at the Kazemattenmuseum Kornwerderzand, finalizing the audio for an exhibition inside one of the historic bunkers.

It tells the story of the fateful flight of the Lancaster ED603. There is nothing quite like adjusting a mix to fit the actual physical space it lives in, especially an underground bunker.

Updates soon.

Animation sound design is basically a form of modern alchemy.

There is nothing quite like taking a visual concept and giving it sonic life. Elevated by Job Roggeveen's score, we are currently working on the sound design of Personal Space, an animated short by Capybara’s Lewis and Sem.

Can’t wait to share more of what we’ve been cooking up!

Thanks Capybara Animation + Team

Busy days at the trailermix desk.
Festival de Cannes is underway, and "Rehearsals for a Revolution" by Pegah Ahangarani is a project we won't soon forget. Grateful to Mariette Balder & Maurits Malschaert for having us on the team.

Giving history auditory context at Kasteel Ammersoyen

We worked together with Studio Louter and Kasteel Ammersoyen for the second phase of Ammersoyen's visitor route. We designed a couple of new atmospheric soundscapes and audio stories.

The best way to deliver these is to listen and mix on location. That way, we can calibrate our audio to the acoustics of each historic space: from the wooden dining room to the semi-underground brewing cellar.

We can’t wait for visitors to hear the stories echoing through the corridors.

Many thanks to all partners: Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen, Even More, Frank van Munster, Shosho, Flink, Rien van Esterik, Marius Bruijn, Marieke Knuijt, Floor Kleuskens, Studio Louter, Sarah van Kerkvoorde, Juliette Lindhout

An added bonus of this work:
After spending hours recording and editing Sir Simon Schama, Martine Gosselink and the English version of the Vogelspotcast, we can now speak as confidently about Brancusi and 17th-century masters as we can about the mating habits of the Swan.

It’s all part of our latest production for the Mauritshuis: the audio tour for the exhibition, BIRDS.

In close collaboration with Mauritshuis' Vera Bos, we handled the full production, including recording, editing, and mixing.

The tour features Sir Simon Schama, who recorded the English version with us, and Mauritshuis Director Martine Gosselink, whom we recorded for the Dutch version.

We also managed the English adaptation of the Vogelspotcast (originally by Gisbert van Baalen and Arjan Dwarshuis), providing the translation and casting British actors for the international release.

BIRDS, Curated by The Goldfinch & Simon Schama, now at the Mauritshuis.

Every month, the equivalent of an entire classroom, 26 young people, end their own lives. These aren’t just statistics; they are lives and stories we can no longer look away from.

This was not an easy project to work on, but it was nevertheless a very important one. By speaking out, the 113 fund wants to break the taboo and lower the barrier to seeking help.

The campaign centers on the courage of the families who shared their stories and it exists because of the care of the 113 fonds, N=5, the many creative professionals who contributed and the 113 team for the integrity of their dedication. Help save lives.

We made a brief return this week to the Oranjehotel, this time to check the new language editions of Oranjehotel Junior. Following the success of last year’s Dutch edition, we have now delivered international versions of the educational program.

Adapting this immersive program was a meticulous task that demanded fidelity: the translation had to be word-for-word, the voice-acting had to retain the intended tone, and the editing and mixing had to stay perfectly aligned with the original soundscape.

Almost the entire original Dutch cast returned to record in the new languages, while we cast internationally for the narration and children’s voices. It was a privilege to help share this important history with even more young audiences.

Many thanks to the Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel, Flink, Maarten Stolk (Even More), Dick Peterse (Beeld & Beweging), and Studio Louter for the great collaboration.
