The earths will burn; the times will come when… = Christopher Vipond Davies; 1965, Milan & 2015 Amsterdam Noord = 31 secs. ”taster”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_SbCfXNb74&list=PLZ670dbe1ya-3gMbWCRuP_VkNB68E4Wel&index=23&t=0s
Oh the times will come when the earths will burn, and all of us from our homes be turned;
And the only refuge will be the sea, far from the lands where the winds blow free.
And all of the beasts of the fields will die, none will remain, though hard they may try;
But all the fishes and whales will remain, their ways will not alter, though their paths they may change.
Then naked and friendless will enter every woman and man, at the ruin of the hard, unyielding land.
To the place from where our first ancestors had come, to the silent swell of the sea, their first home.
And as we enter alone, our hands on our heart, what will our salt blinded eyes see in the dark;
What sounds will enter our wind deafened ears, what thoughts will fill our unthinking mind?
We may cry and shout but it’ll all be in vain, we need to realize that the whole thing’s ordained;
We came from there and return one day we must, like bleached bones in the desert turn once more unto dust.

= I wrote this originally spontaneously, after smoking hash or similar, without any preconception of what it was about, vaguely about our need to be more flexible, open to change, blow with the wind, certainly not a Christian, apocalyptic judgement. I now see it as possibly relating to dying, also to the climate crisis, and today, Jan. 8, 2012, to the fires in Australia – and how the Abos knew/know how to live in Oz.
= The changes in 2015 were technically small, making it about “us” rather than “them” – maybe a change in attitude from age 22 to 72!
= I added these lines below for singing this song at the funeral of a friend Marie Annick from the Celtic land of Brittany, Northern France. Her daughter Julia included them in the service sheet and I felt including them in my singing clarified why I sang this song – on this occasion it being about going to the “sea” of the spiritual world after physical death; also because of the strong connection that Brittany has with the sea, largely because of its geography. – 31 secs. ”taster”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_SbCfXNb74&list=PLZ670dbe1ya-3gMbWCRuP_VkNB68E4Wel&index=23&t=0s
“Farewell kind friends whose tender care has long engaged my love.
Your fond embrace I now exchange for long lost friends above.”
