"With the memories of the Second World War burning vividly in the minds of many Europeans, there came a momentum to craft something truly new, something that would strike out the possibility of further war, and bring forth a new era of cooperation for the European continent."

In Paris, May 9th 1950, the then French foreign minister, Robert Schuman, laid out in his now historic speech, his proposal for a new single “community” for coal & steel production in Europe.

Now, over 50 years later, our editors take the opportunity to explore the many facets of Europe and what it is to be European, in this, our Europe Day Special Edition.

‘The omnipresence of Big Tech has steadily manifested itself within the human psyche to an unavoidable extent. We revolve around the glow of our timelines, depend upon the next incoming notification, and are unflinchingly loyal to the act of scrolling. But amidst this addictive cycle, there is a growing number of those inching toward rebellion. From Gen-Z to tired souls, people are beginning to log off.’

“Here, citizenship is a tool of demarcation: it is one of the qualifiers with which it is determined how easy and carefree, or how violent and precarious our lives will be.”

The second article we would like to highlight from our tour through the archive is one from 2019. With the Brexit deadline looming, nationalist-ideologies rising, and an ongoing struggle to help settle refugees, it makes you reflect on just how important it is to have a certain passport.

A spotlight on new articles, current developments, and other news.

For the first article to revisit we have chosen one from eurovisie 2018. Whilst being pushed into the background in media coverage by the current epidemic, the problem is no less important today than it was at the start.

“In a time where media and politicians portray refugees to be nothing more than facts and figures, Anna Boyce explored another side of the refugee crisis as portrayed through cinematic representations.”

To understand the sequence of events, you have to follow the money. With this premise, on the ten year anniversary of EU aid for Greece, ES teacher David Hollanders has come to single out a key player in the Eurocrisis, who, until now, has been able to dodge real blame. Hollanders is here to set the record straight in the latest editorial addition to our website.

Greece wasn't bailed out, banks were the Euro-crisis ten years on David Hollanders   The euro-crisis started ten years ago when the then Greek prime...

With the closing of the university, Eurovisie has stopped printing the magazine as well. Even though we temporarily do not exist in our usual slightly smaller than A4-form, we do continue to write. For razor sharp observations and witty political, cultural and historical commentary on everything European, you can now turn to our brand new website.

No prior experience is necessary, we can teach you how to use the designing program and templates do exist, just a vague sense of aesthetics, moderate level of creativity and overall enthusiasm to join the board will suffice for this position.
