On July 1st the team at Next Era have a day off from work to commemorate and celebrate - the end of official slavery in the former Dutch colonies. Even though the slavery officially ended in 1863 in these regions, formerly enslaved were obligated to continue to live and work under the same conditions for a further 10 years. The consequences of that racist and discriminatory system are still visible in todays society. Even though all people are considered free and equal by law, we recognise the disparities between communicaties stemming from this shared history. We also acknowledge the communities in the world that are not able to live free and equal lives due to the racist and discriminatory systems they are forced to to live under.
