Exhibited Art Work: Samurette’s Portrait Gallery of the Association of Revenge Friends.
Samurette: “A Not So Funny Story”, is the female counterpart of Samurai. She is a character from the martial arts -traditionally a world of mainly male heroes- and the alter ego of visual artist and karate teacher Thérèse Zoekende.
“Samurette’s Portrait Gallery of the Association of Revenge Friends” (2025) is an installation of five hoodies in different colors, hung in a row, freely hanging in space. The clothing features portraits and texts of Samurette’s vengeful girlfriends on the front and back. the Association of Revenge Friends has five members: Beatrix Kiddo, Lady Snowblood, Lilith, Pirate Jenny and Samurette. All Badass Women who resolve the still existing taboo and fear of the powerful, rebellious and violent woman.
The Women House Amsterdam exhibition also includes Samurette’s first graphic novel: “Samurette in the Castle Garden”. Paperback, Dutch, 60 pages, suitable for ages 12 and up, 2021. The graphic novel tells, among other things, about Samurette’s entanglement with the character Eddy. “Eduardo wanders through the Castle Garden again, watched by Samurette: He was supposed to go home, wasn’t he?”
