"In deze documentaire belichten de makers het recht op de stad voor de bewoners van de Baaibuurt in Amsterdam West. Het ‘recht op de stad’ is een concept dat verder gaat dan alleen toegang tot stedelijke ruimtes, het draait om de collectieve macht om de stad vorm te geven en te bepalen hoe die zich ontwikkelt. De term 'recht op de stad' werd oorspronkelijk geïntroduceerd door de Franse filosoof en socioloog Henri Lefebvre in 1968, en drukt het idee uit dat stedelijke ruimte niet enkel in dienst staat van kapitaal of privébezit, maar moet worden gevormd door en voor de mensen die er wonen, in het bijzonder gemarginaliseerde gemeenschappen. Het omvat rechten zoals toegang tot huisvesting, openbare diensten, vervoer, cultuur, onderwijs en groene ruimte, participatie in besluitvorming over stadsplanning en bestuur, inclusie in het culturele, sociale en politieke leven van de stad, en zeggenschap over stedelijke verandering (zoals het verzetten tegen verdringing, gentrificatie en de privatisering van publieke ruimte). "In this documentary, the makers highlight the right to the city for the residents of the Baaibuurt in Amsterdam West. The ‘right to the city’ is a concept that goes beyond mere access to urban spaces; it revolves around the collective power to shape the city and determine how it develops. The term ‘right to the city’ was originally introduced by the French philosopher and sociologist Henri Lefebvre in 1968, and expresses the idea that urban space should not only serve capital or private property, but must be shaped by and for the people who live there, especially marginalized communities. It encompasses rights such as access to housing, public services, transport, culture, education, and green space; participation in decision-making on urban planning and governance; inclusion in the cultural, social, and political life of the city; and influence over urban change (such as resisting displacement, gentrification, and the privatization of public space). These rights were (almost) entirely absent for the residents of Baaibuurt-West."

📽️ 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀! Our documentary 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲 made it to the 𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 of the May 2025 edition of the 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗺 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹, a relatively new film festival run by a group of young filmmakers who all studied filmmaking in Stockholm. Althogh we did not make it to the finals, we are very honored by this official selection. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗺 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹! 🇸🇪

𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴! Three weeks ago, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲 was shown in 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻, Italy, as part of 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗲-𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗮, an independent film festival about urban living, organized by 𝗖𝗢𝗫𝟭𝟴. Both director 𝗠𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗲 𝗝𝗲𝗽𝗺𝗮 and cinematographer 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶 were present at this very 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱, with Italian subtitles.

This 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝟯-𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 organized by 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 and 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰 explores how Carnaval has inspired filmmakers around the world to tell stories of joy, resistance, community, and freedom. From the dazzling parades of 𝗥𝗶𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗼 and 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 to the rhythmic expressions of 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮, 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮, and the 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻 and the Prince Carnaval traditions of the 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 and 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗶𝘂𝗺, Carnaval is a global phenomenon, rooted in 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. The inaugural 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 honors the complexity, creativity and resistance of these traditions, while asking urgent questions about culture, identity, and belonging in a changing world.

The 𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 features 𝟲 𝗼𝗻-𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 at 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗸𝘄𝗲𝗴 and 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗴 in 𝗔𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗺 in the weekend of 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟭𝟭-𝟭𝟯, as well as an extensive 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 with 𝟱𝟬+ 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀 on Carnaval available wordwide. From the opening night screenings of 𝗢𝗿𝗳𝗲𝘂 𝗡𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗼, on 𝗥𝗶𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗹, and 𝗣𝗔𝗡!
