On the first day of spring, STOOR Live returns to Paradiso for another fully improvised hardware jam. Once again Speedy J and our crew will be accompanied by a remarkable selection of artists who continue to push the boundaries of sonic and visual exploration!
After previous appearances as Out of Place Artefacts alongside RĂždhĂ„d in Paradiso and a celebrated STOOR performance at Kappa FuturFestival in Torino last summer VRIL returns for a third session on the STOOR Live stage. This time, he will be joined by Wata Igarashi, the esteemed Japanese composer and sound designer with whom he recently launched another collaborative live project called Phantom Circuits. Alongside them will be Erika, whoâs been at the forefront of Detroit techno since the late '90s, known both as half of Ectomorph and as a solo artist whose deep mastery of analog synthesis continues to inspire. Completing the quintet are Function, founding member of the legendary Sandwell District collective, and of course Speedy J himself. These longtime collaborators were among the very first producers to work together in the STOOR lab many years ago, before the project was ever introduced to the world. Their reunion on stage marks a full-circle moment for STOOR.
Tickets are now available!

The city of Rotterdam, a cultural interchange that is home to some of the worldâs most cutting-edge architectural projects, has also been a home base for some of the seminal artists to have defined the terrain of electronic music. It has become a highly reliable forum for audio experimentation, with all the human and technological resources necessary for artists to reach that ânext phaseâ in their creative development.
In very much the same spirit, a new sonic lab complex, STOOR - located in a basement space formerly used as a government testing agency and as a fallout shelter - has opened within the heart of Rotterdam. This generously reinforced space, open 24/7 and with no stylistic limitations placed on its guests, will be available to intrepid electronic producers (novice and veteran alike). Whether visitors arrive with plans for mixing, post-production, or building new works from scratch, this environment will provide them an unparalleled opportunity to âstretch outâ creatively; to peel back any lingering inhibitions and to therefore discover aspects of their sonic approach that they have not fully explored before.
Specifically designed to encourage improvisation and expressive surprises, STOOR features a number of distinct elements that are unique not just to the Netherlands, but to the entirety of international electronic music culture. It offers an unparalleled selection of music-making tools, housing a number of highly rare vintage pieces as well as modern standbys - that is to say, everything from classic keyboard synths to the newest and most advanced modular systems. Coupled with the labsâ round-the-clock nature, the lack of a âpre-setâ configuration for the tools on hand allows artists a greater role in the design of their own workspace, and will lead to a fluid sense of interaction between multiple producers working within the same confines.
STOOR will not just act as a venue for spontaneous and improvised expression, but will also be a space in which a special type of documentary process takes place. Thanks to an on-site vinyl lathe, limited edition recordings of each resident producerâs work at STOOR can be created with a turnaround time significantly quicker than that of conventional pressing plants, and are subsequently archived on site. Each hand-numbered edition of 50 records will be housed in 450gs sleeves with magnetic flaps and info pocket, complemented by anti-static / anti-dust audiophile inner sleeves. Simply put, STOOR presents a chance for producers to store their ephemeral âmagic momentsâ and happy accidents on a highly sophisticated and high fidelity physical format.
As perhaps the only hybrid âarchive / lab / documentâ space of its kind, STOOR is poised to become a cauldron bubbling over with new sonic flavors and, more importantly, with remarkable new possibilities for how to work and communicate with oneâs peers and audience.
