I don’t make the rules

It actually makes complete sense if you get what I mean 🐈‍⬛

Because why simplify life? 😎

Training my cat to come hiking with me has been a long and challenging journey, but it’s paid off in ways I cannot put into words. Not only do I get to spend more time with her, but it also taught me a lot:

• cats are more capable than society makes them seem 🐈‍⬛
our “traditional” beliefs and media portray cats as “simple”, “independent” and sometimes even “easy” - but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

• a lot of people will think you’re crazy
but you learn to care less and less about their opinions - and enjoy your life to the fullest 😉

• cats are not that mysterious at all 😳
they’re very capable of communicating clearly - you just have to learn their language!

• letting cats free roam is crazy
the more I go out with my cat (on a leash) the more I see how dangerous and irresponsible free roaming is. Cats chew on random plants, eat garbage, and risk getting attacked by predators and humans.

• the majority of dogs are reactive or very poorly trained
we’ve encountered so many dogs that are left off-leash in parks where leashing is mandatory, and on top of that they’re all reactive and have no recall or manners whatsoever 🥲

And I’m sure there are many more, but these are the firsts to pop in my mind 😸

July - a month full of change 🦋

Ombra knows the road to her lakehouse very well, and keeps close watch when she realises we’re nearing 🚗

She found one of her best lookout spots yet, only to find out the week after that it turned into an ant nest 🐜

Sleepy after her little hike! 🐈‍⬛

Got this adorable necklace with Ombra’s “birth”stone from Verali
We don’t know when she was born so we went with the *rough* estimate our first ever vet gave us: May 😸💚

And then the temperatures went back up… Must resist to scratch the pole 💦

And finally, after three years here, we had to say goodbye to our beloved little apartment…
Ombra now has 3x as much floor space, but it still can’t compare to her 37m2 kingdom 😅 Let’s see if we can find a permanent place that she can turn into her empire 🙀

Movie night & snuggling the first night in the “new” place 🐈‍⬛ 💛

‼️ The heat is starting to reach her last remaining braincells ‼️

The countdown to a great new chapter is beginning 🤭

Things we do with ease thanks to adventure cat training ✨

Vet visits are easier because my cat is used to being held and handled. But more importantly, going outside isn’t automatically linked to displeasing vet visits in her brain, making it much easier to go out and walk to the vet without stress.

Adventuring made her super adaptable to any litter box situation. Peeing outside? No problem! Peeing in a barbecue box? Fine!
But at home, she has a fancy automatic litter box from Petlibro 🤭

This might be the most important one: she doesn’t hide when a stressful situation occurs.
Imagine a fire breaks out and you have to quickly get your cat in their carrier to run to safety. Your cat can feel your panic and stress, even if you try to hide it - and might go into hiding as a reaction to your “weird” behaviour.
Ombra doesn’t go into hiding: she stays with me and waits for me to understand what’s going on. Even if she does get nervous, she stays close and lets me take her wherever whenever. We can be out in the house in under a minute!

Walking around streams and waterfalls, exploring puddles and walking on wet trails — it all helped desensitise her to water and the sound of flowing water over them. It’s improved our bath time experience so much.

Whilst this one remains confusing (because why aren’t we returning home after a certain amount of time??), the moving experience is much less stressful on a cat who is used to exploring and being in new spaces.

Another very important one: thanks to us adventuring, we’ve grown to be experts of reading each other’s unspoken communication. That, together with our strong bond and mutual trust, makes cooperative care as easy as it could possibly be!
