Yesterday I received the sad news that my uncle Jorge passed away.

When I was a child, he was my favorite uncle — the one who always stood out. Jorge was a percussionist, and he was the one who first inspired me to follow that same path. While my father and grandfather mostly played string instruments, it was the rhythm that called to me. Congas, bongos, and later timbales — it all started with him.

Although I’ve been out of touch with my father’s side of the family for many years, due to things that unfolded after my grandparents passed, hearing about Jorge’s death hit me harder than I expected. It brought back a flood of memories — of music, of family, of simpler times.

I’ve spent the whole day searching for photos of us together. I know there are many — moments captured from the past, especially from when I was a kid. Unfortunately, I don’t have those pictures anymore. But the memories are vivid, and they live deep in my heart.

I’m still unsure about how to say goodbye, or if I even will. But I do know that I wanted to honor him in some way. To thank him for the inspiration, for planting the seed that grew into my lifelong love for rhythm, drums, and beats.

Rest in peace, uncle Jorge and thank you for being my musical inspiration. 🕊️

𝗪𝗼𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗱𝗮𝗴 𝟮𝟰 𝗺𝗲𝗶 𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟱 – 𝗔𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗺 𝗢𝗼𝘀𝘁.

3e Oosterparkstraat, om precies te zijn, thuis bij m’n vader met nog 2 vrienden. Al de hele dag zenuwachtig. Ajax stond in de finale van de Champions League tegen AC Milan… de spanning vrat aan me. M’n hoofd stond nergens anders naar. Ook m’n vader voelde het; z’n hoofdpijn werd met het uur erger.

En toen… minuut 85.
Rijkaard tikt ‘m breed naar Patje Kluivert, die met het puntje van z’n schoen de bal binnenschuift. Alsof de wereld even stil stond. En daarna… een explosie. Bij ons thuis, op het balkon, in alle huizen om ons heen: geschreeuw, gejuich.

Maar toen, de langste 10 minuten ooit… Oh, en blessuretijd. 😫
Die blessuretijd duurde eindeloos. De stress, de spanning, m’n vaders kloppende hoofd. Tot eindelijk dat verlossende fluitsignaal kwam.

Ik barstte in tranen uit. Alle opgebouwde spanning kwam eruit. Blijdschap, trots, ongeloof… alles tegelijk.

Jasje aan, sneakers aan, en hup de stad in. M’n pa niet, die moest naar bed. Z’n hoofdpijn werd een migraine aanval.

Maar wij? Gevierd tot de zon weer opkwam, in Canecão, in de Leidsedwarsstraat, met heel Amsterdam.

24 mei 2025. Vandaag precies 30 jaar geleden. Een avond die voor altijd in m’n hart zit.

We waren de beste van Europa. En dat voelde je in elke vezel van je lijf.

Mijn club, mijn stad. Bedankt Ajax. ♥️

𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀…

Still glowing from last Saturday, April 26th — 𝘒𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘔’𝘈𝘥𝘢𝘮 𝘈𝘵 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵— where Robin and I had the honor of opening for Spanish House legend 𝗗𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗗 𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗡.

I started the night solo (𝘙𝘰𝘣𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘢 𝘨𝘪𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘜𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘵), but by 10 PM we teamed up for two full hours behind the decks. And man… it felt 𝗦𝗢 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗢𝗗. Sharing the booth with someone who loves Soulful House just as deeply as I do is truly special.

As I celebrate my birthday today, I also look back on a period filled with both highs and lows. Life hasn’t always been easy — but these sets, these moments behind the decks, they’ve been healing.
Music has always been my big big love, and it always will be.

From Grant Nelson to Louie Vega, Dave Lee, Rasmus Faber, Richard Earnshaw, Hardsoul (𝘸𝘦 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘑 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘹 𝘰𝘧 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘛𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳) — it was pure magic. One track that hit especially deep was ‘𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝘼𝙡𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩, 𝙄 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙄𝙩’ by 𝗡𝗨𝗬𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗟. Groove, soul, funk — it’s everything I stand for.

A special moment came when Robin invited Greg into the spotlight to give him his flowers for the iconic track he created with ROOG and Ron Carroll.,‘Back Together’.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝘁, 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆… 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱. 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘀, 𝗺𝗮𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼.

I never aimed to become a “big” DJ — I’ve always worked behind the scenes. But I can’t lie: being able to share this passion on stage brings me so much joy. And thanks to Robin, I get to bring my Soulful House heart to life.

To the friends that came to vibe with us - ‘big sis’ Nes, JK, Fleur, Jamie, Robert, Demi and a special shoutout to Laura — thank you for your support!
