You somehow ban our photographer Ton Dekkers from the platform for having non -shortened versions of his name on his passport... And then decide to simply also REMOVE the Instagram of the magazine he only works for?? Permanently?? Like WTF are you smoking up in that glass tower?? The third band (from Belgium also) at Hellfest Open Air Festival was for me an extra reason to go. Skeptical Minds was founded in 2002 and appeared at a lot of stages. Don’t know any more when I met them for the first time but for sure more than 10 years ago. And they played on a FemME related show and at Female Metal Event - FEMME I. Great to see them again, hear some of the old songs and of course the new songs from the album “Kharon”. The mix of electro-industrial music with metal guitar riffs and a melodic female voice is still typical and the enthusiasm on stage was as in the old days. An enjoyable strong performance.

A second post of HELL OPEN AIR (by Club HELL) presenting the second Belgian band Splendidula. They offered a completely different vibe with their Atmospheric Doom Metal. Although it’s complicated the bring that slow dark vibe to live in the sun. Nevertheless a was a good show. To fit the time slot they skipped their ‘short’ songs and presented us just 4 songs. In that was they could provide a nice impression of their work. The strong vocals of Kristien Cools, solid guitar work, consistent outfit and the visuals made all-in experience.

The new festival HELL OPEN AIR (by Club HELL Diest – Belgium) had two themes. Heavy Sound Homage on Saturday. As expected a full day tributing the Known Big(ger) Names. And on Sunday Female Fronted Violence. Of course with the focus on Female (Metal) Power. For me, the Sunday was key.

Entering the festival thru a nice gate the area showed a comfortable setting for audience and bands. All you need was there and well structured. And also imported, reasonable prices.
As organizer of FemME – Female Metal Event, I like the support of Female Power. And this first edition of Hell Open Air showed again that female metal is not just melodic operatic metal. So Kudos to Hell for making this happen and offering a balanced line-up.

Shots Fired - Female Fronted Rockband from Antwerp (Belgium) was a nice opener of the festival, quite early at 13.00 hours. No full metal but solid heavy rock with some flavors of blues, punk and metal. Although it was not yet that crowded, their enthusiasm was great and warmed-up well for a full day heavier music.
