Exactly 12 years ago today... On May 23rd, 2013, we hit the stage at the beautiful LantarenVenster in Rotterdam with none other than the legendary Dr. Lonnie Smith on Hammond organ. What a night! 🔥

We captured the entire show on video and audio — originally just for YouTube — but it ended up being aired on Jazz TV (Stingray/DJazz) and even somehow made its way to Amazon. 🤯

The Secret Life of Women (Lakshmi Project) by Frank Fish – A Musical Tribute to the Power of Women

Sheephead Records (a subsidiary of Social Beats Records) proudly announces the digital re-release of The Secret Life of Women (Lakshmi Project) by UK-born, Netherlands-based artist Frank Fish. Originally recorded in 2000, this long-lost collection of musical stories celebrates the universal and essential role of women. From the Earth Mother to test pilots, religious icons, scientists, world leaders and everything in between. Women - the female energy - are the lifeblood and source from which we all come.

With influences from rock, folk, Eastern, psychedelic, sci-fi, alternative and pagan streams of thought, the album blends deep storytelling with a genre-defying soundscape. Written in the early 1990s and recorded in Dordrecht, The Netherlands, The Secret Life of Women was first released on CD in 2000. Now, 25 years later, this Anglo-Dutch production will finally be available on all major streaming platforms on April 25, 2025.

Frank Fish - a musician, composer, poet, philosopher and comedian - first made waves in the 1980s fronting the Oxford band Frank Fish and the Fins. In the Netherlands, he has played with Creature Feature, The Beavers, Giant Chicken and is currently part of prog-rock project The One. On this album, he sings, plays guitar and co-produced alongside Timothy van der Holst.

In 2001, Dutch drummer, percussionist, and producer Timothy van der Holst released Moved by the Drum—an album inspired by his journeys to Ghana, Nepal, and Turkey in the early ’90s. Each of its 12 tracks is deeply rooted in the traditional rhythms he encountered, brought to life with instruments he personally collected on his travels. In 1984 verscheen de legendarische compilatie D’r echt (P)op, dankzij Angelo Noce Santoro en het Popkollektief Dordrecht. Dit bijzondere document vatte de popscene van Dordrecht perfect samen en liet zien hoe rijk en divers de muziek in die tijd was.

📀 Fast forward naar 2024: bij Sheephead Records brengen we deze klassieker opnieuw uit—ditmaal digitaal! Zo zorgen we ervoor dat de muziek uit de Dordtse jaren ’80 ook voor toekomstige generaties beschikbaar blijft.

Samen met de Drechtstreek-LP (1978) en Rondje Dordt – Pop uit de Drechtstreek (1998) vormt dit een prachtig overzicht van de levendige popscene die Dordrecht toen en nu kenmerkt.

✨ Fast forward naar 2024: bij Sheephead Records vinden we het tijd om deze klassieker opnieuw te delen—ditmaal digitaal! Zo blijft de muziek van de Dordtse jaren ’70 ook voor toekomstige generaties beschikbaar.
