"Determining VฬO2max in competitive swimmers: Comparing the validity and reliability of cycling, arm cranking, ergometer swimming, and tethered swimmingโ
We're proud to announce the recent publication of this article by Michel de Haan, investigating the most effective method for determining VฬO2max in competitive swimmers.
Maximal oxygen consumption (VฬO2max) is a critical success factor in most endurance sports, including competitive swimming. VฬO2max reflects how well the cardiovascular and respiratory systems deliver oxygen to the muscles involved, as well as their ability to utilize this oxygen in producing the energy required for competitive performance. Measuring VฬO2max is therefore an indispensable tool for researchers, coaches and athletes striving toward excellence in training and performance.
This study is part of the physiology PhD project of Michel de Haan. This project is a co-operation between KNZB, PSV, TopSupport, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and InnoSportLab De Tongelreep. The study was supported by a ZonMW Sportinnovator grant.
