From Osaka to Eindhoven. Dutch Design Week is currently celebrating 25 years of ideas, experiments and visions of the future! ✨
Under the motto ‘Past. Present. Possible.’, 2,600 designers showing how design can change our world – critically, creatively and courageously – at over 100 unique locations from 18 to 26 October.

The ddw is Northern Europe's largest design week and one of the most important worldwide.
Highlights of the ddw include experimental designs, sustainable materials, slightly crazy characters or simply beautiful furniture with new patterns, designs or unusual shapes or materials.
Every year, Eindhoven provides the perfect backdrop for the ddw with its industrial charm.

And during Design Week, the whole City of Eindhoven seems to be on its feet and there is a wonderfully inspiring atmosphere for a better future in the city.

Expo 2025 Osaka ended on 13 October.
Approximately 28 million people visited Osaka's second world exhibition on the artificial island of Yumeshima.

Some of the highlights of Expo 2025 included the Grand Ring, the world's largest Japanese-style wooden structure.
The Grand Ring allowed visitors to see the Expo pavilions and the entire area, as well as the shows and fireworks, from above.

The Japanese pavilion presented, among other things, green Hello Kitty figures representing different types of algae.

Countless countries made impressive contributions to the Expo's theme, ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives.’

Germany impressed with its ideas on the circular economy.

The façade of the null2 pavilion was particularly spectacular.

And the star of the Expo was, of course, the blue and red mascot Myaku-Myaku, which was initially heavily criticised but later took the hearts of visitors by storm.

Hier folgt ein "Out of Town"-Tipp für das Wochenende: In findet zurzeit die statt. Sie läuft noch bis zum 29.10.

Die Dutch Design Week ist Nordeuropas größte und wichtigste Design-Week mit mehr als 2600 Designern und zieht jedes Jahr mehr als 350.000 Besuchern an.

Die DDW konzentriert sich auf das Design der Zukunft und die Zukunft des Designs.
Das Ziel ist es, zu zeigen, wie Designer aus aller Welt eine positive Zukunft gestalten können und es soll die Position und die Bedeutung niederländischer Designer gestärkt werden.
An über 100 Orten in der ganzen Stadt findet man Ausstellungen, Vorträge, Preisverleihungen, Networking-Events, Debatten und Partys rund um das Thema Design.

Besonders gefördert werden junge Talente. Dies sieht man nicht nur bei der Graduation Show der
(halbwegs vergleichbar mit dem Rundgang der Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie).
Hier findet man oft auch kritische Auseinandersetzung zu gesellschaftlichen Themen.

Ein zentraler Ort ist die alte „verbotene Philips-Stadt“ rund um das Klokgebouw am Ketelhuisplein.
Diese ist inzwischen zum kreativen Hub und pulsierenden Festivalgelände in Eindhoven geworden.

Hier kann man den Tag bei Bier, Snacks und Musik ausklingen lassen.
Aber auch die Stadt Eindhoven selbst ist inzwischen zu einer spannenden Metropole mit schönen Cafés, kreativem Vibe und mutiger Architektur geworden.

6 Night Facades made from wood.

EXPO 2020 is even more beautiful in the evening than during the day.

Many countries have chosen wood for their construction and architecture.
And at night, these are often illuminated and literally appear in a completely different light.

This construction method with wood is considered to be much more sustainable than a construction method with concrete or steel.

Especially for temporary exhibitions, such as EXPOs, this is often the better option to avoid leaving behind concrete deserts or steel ruins.

Because an EXPO is rather unusual at this time of the year.

Normally, world exhibitions start in May or similarly warm months in the northern hemisphere of the earth.

An EXPO over the turn of the year in two consecutive years is very rare.

Dubai is one of the most exceptional EXPOs, not only because it is the first world exhibition in the Middle East.

Only five EXPOs have ever taken place in January or February before.

We continue with a review of previous EXPOs:
Astana was the last host of a world exposition in 2017.
Here you can see the Kazakh National Pavilion. Incidentally, it was also jokingly called the Death Star because of its similarity to the fictitious space station from the Star Wars films.
Inside, however, it had some very interesting exhibits on the themes of the EXPO motto "Future Energy".
There is also a glass skywalk at a height of about 60 metres.
After EXPO 2017, a congress centre called QAZEXPOCONGRESS was built on the EXPO site.
And the host city Astana has also changed its name.
It is now called Nur-Sultan, named after the long-time president Nursultan Nazarbayev, who resigned in 2019 after almost 30 years in office.
However, Nur-Sultan still remains the second coldest capital in the world.
In winter it can get as low as -37° Celsius here. An EXPO between October and April, as will take place in Dubai in 2020/21, would not have been a good idea here.

Hier gibt es auch einen gläsernen Skywalk auf circa 60 Meter Höhe.
Nach der entstand ein Kongresszentrum mit dem Namen QAZEXPOCONGRESS auf dem EXPO-Gelände.
Und auch Astana hat den Namen geändert.
Sie heißt nun Nur-Sultan, benannt nach dem Präsidenten Nursultan Nasarbajew, der 2019 nach fast 30-jähriger Amtszeit zurückgetreten ist.
Nur-Sultan bleibt aber auch noch die zweitkälteste Hauptstadt der Welt.

The United Arab Emirates pavilion at EXPO 2015 was another spectacular construction by the seven Emirates.

In Milan they presented a building almost 140 metres long, whose structure and texture was reminiscent of desert sand and a landscape of dunes.
The high and narrow shady paths were inspired by ancient planning principles of the hot desert states.
The Masdar Master Plan also served as a model.
Masdar-City was to become a completely new planned city, which was to supply up to 50,000 inhabitants completely climate-neutral with self-generated energy.
It will be very interesting to see how the hosts will present themselves at their own world exhibition in 2020 and which future-oriented concepts for sustainability the UAE national pavilion in Dubai will present.

Unfassbare 73 Millionen Menschen besuchten vor knapp 10 Jahren die erste Weltausstellung in China.

Der Pavillon von Dubai und den anderen Emiraten war einer der spektakulärsten und beliebtesten Gebäude bei der .
Die "Sanddünen" wurde gestaltet von Sir Norman Foster. Und für die gelungene Show war Disney verantwortlich.
Am 20. Oktober 2020 startet die EXPO 2020 in Dubai.
