🔥 𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐂𝐈𝐑𝐂𝐋𝐄𝐒 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊. 𝐓𝐖𝐈𝐂𝐄

4 years after 'Gnosis', Russian Circles are back with new material and two singles. One hits. One unfolds. Both sound like three people making an unreasonable amount of noise.

“Empath” goes straight for the throat — doom, distortion and an actual “knuckleheaded hardcore breakdown” while “Eluvial” goes wider: slower burn, bigger horizon, same complete disregard for what a bass guitar is traditionally supposed to do.

2 singles. Two sides of 'Nine', their upcoming album to be released later this month (August 28) via Sargent House.

No vocals. No dramatic reinvention (was it needed ? Surely not). No problem. Russian Circles still sound unmistakably like Russian Circles - without sounding like a band trying to sound like Russian Circles.

That distinction matters.

1996. 'Quake' arrives and casually helps rewrite the rules of videogames.

Meanwhile, Trent Reznor / Nine Inch Nails decides that what this revolutionary new nightmare really needs is… industrial drones, corroded ambience, distant screams and the general sensation that something deeply unpleasant is waiting around the next corner.

Perfect.

Three decades later, the 'Quake' soundtrack remains one of the strangest, darkest and most influential marriages of music and videogames ever committed to a CD-ROM.

And for its 30th anniversary, NIN have given it the vinyl treatment again with a limited 2LP edition — because apparently existential dread sounds better on wax.

Gaming soundtrack? Ambient industrial masterpiece? Music for staring suspiciously into dark corridors?

𝑆𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑑ℎ𝑜𝑜𝑑 𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑢𝑚𝑎 𝑏𝑦 𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑖𝑡.

IIII Healer IIII (sludge heavy-rock with members of CRACKHOUSE, Toekan, Verbal Razors...) apparently decided to plug it into several very large amplifiers.

Coming out of Tours, France, the newcomers return with Desolation — 18 minutes of riffs with the approximate mass of industrial machinery, hardcore aggression, Southern swagger and, inconveniently, some seriously addictive melodies.

Think Torche getting into a bar fight with KYLESA. Baroness with less sunlight. Mastodon stripped of the prog gymnastics. A little Down and Corrosion Of Conformity crawling through the cracks.

Four tracks. Zero wasted movement. Plenty of groove. Even more damage.

And beneath all that geological activity, 'Desolation' is exactly what HEALER's name suggests: music as catharsis, digging through childhood trauma, parental pressure, illness and darker places without turning any of it into cheap misery p**n.

Heavy music doing what heavy music does best.

Born in Vietnam’s underground, raised on crossover thrash and now operating somewhere between the organised chaos of Converge, the emotional violence of Birds in Row and the sonic abrasion of Full of Hell, CÚT LỘN have evolved into something darker, nastier and unmistakably their own.

And they do it entirely in Vietnamese.

There are also Pikachu costumes, fertilized eggs. DIY tours across Asia, poetry or band-branded hot sauce.

And, somehow, it all makes perfect sense.

After waiting nine years to release a proper album, CONVERGE apparently decided time was running out.

So naturally... they released two in four months.

Most media reviewed 'Love Is Not Enough' and 'Hum Of Hurt' separately. Apparently, we didn't get the memo.

Because the real story isn't that Converge released two excellent records in 2026. It's why they exist, what they reveal about a band entering its 36th year, and why they still sound more necessary than most bands half their age.

18 years ago, 'The Slip' landed without warning.

No endless teaser campaign. No mysterious countdown. No "pre-save now."

Just Trent Reznor dropping a brand-new Nine Inch Nails record online with four words:

"𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞'𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐞"

In 2008, that felt almost absurd. Today, it feels strangely prophetic.

But 'The Slip' wasn't just an experiment in distribution. It was an album that hit hard from start to finish. From the controlled chaos of "1,000,000" and "Letting You" to the haunting beauty of "Lights in the Sky" and the explosive finale "Demon Seed", it captured Nine Inch Nails at one of their most immediate and uncompromising moments.

Maybe it doesn't get mentioned as often as 'The Downward Spiral' or 'The Fragile'. Maybe it should.

Happy 18th anniversary to one of the most underrated records in the catalogue.

And yes... we're still waiting for someone else to casually release an album with "This one's on me".
