WHAT HAPPENS AT THE YARD: SEPTEMBER
September brought a steady flow of work to the VMG yard. With several projects reaching exciting phases, there’s plenty to share this month.
Let’s start with Simmerdream. After months of detailed refit work, she’s back in the water. This 16.5-metre steel motor yacht, originally built by De Vries Lentsch in 1946, has been carefully updated without losing her timeless character. The past weeks were all about putting the final pieces in place. Doors and hatches were refitted, and all restored parts came together beautifully. The new interior brings a whole new level of comfort on board. Sea trials are planned shortly, and we’re looking forward to seeing her perform.
Work on the Puffin 42 is moving ahead steadily. The solar arch, made by SDH, has been installed, and attention is now shifting back to the interior. Her exterior already looks sharp, and the next phases are progressing well.
The team is also making careful progress on Jeff, the 1923 wooden yacht that took part in the evacuation of Dunkirk. After removing the old caulking and stripping her back to bare wood, she’s now being slowly conditioned. It’s a gradual process, but essential to prepare her for the future. Together with Epifanes, we’re setting her up for a new paint system that will protect her for many more years.
Meanwhile, the Sport Fish 48 series is showing strong progress across the fleet. Hull number 1 is in the final stage. The air conditioning is running, the sliding door and TV lift are in, and the interior is nearly complete. Hull number 2 is also moving along well, with the inner shell and seating in place and preparations underway for the upholstery. Fairing continues on hulls 2 and 3, and the pace is good. Step by step, these sport fish boats are getting closer to launch.
As you can see, a lot is happening and more is to come in October!
