Exactly 2 years I was first contacted by this association with 300 members in Bellingwolde, to come and give a lecture. Several times we had to postpone but tonight it is finally going to happen!!

I will talk about export to China but of course we will also discuss together today's hot topics.

Volgens de Chinese kalender begint op 1 februari 2022 het nieuwe jaar. Dan gaat het Jaar van de Os over in het Jaar van de Tijger. The ox year - my year - has come to an end! It was a year with ups and downs but overall it was a happy & healthy year! And that's all what counts, doesn't it?
I can't mention every step of the ox' way here but 2 things I would like to highlight:

The 10th anniversary of Merlin Melles her fantastic network fCN - Founders Carbon Network, which was celebrated really big at Amsterdam Carré. What a party! Already 8 years we have the privilege of helping the fCN members with their China business and we'll love to continue that in the years to come!

High Touch executive search, the partnership that became reality last year! Already many years we hear that finding the right, loyal people in China is a huge challenge for foreign companies there. Now - with the help and expertise of Wilko Grievink and the other High Touch partners - we are able to provide executive service with focus on agri & food in China too. If you think we may be of help to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Besides these 2 points I would like to take advantage and thank our customers, our team, our partners and friends & family here for helping me getting through these covid years.
I truly hope we can all travel freely to China again somewhere in the year of the tiger!! But first it is time to say:

Het is een feit dat de werking van justitie en media in de Volksrepubliek China anders is dan in het Westen en waarschijnlijk zijn die instellingen voor verbetering vatbaar, iets waar de Chinese leiders zelf herhaaldelijk op wijzen. Dat betekent ook weer niet dat de westerse rechtspraak en media een monopolie op correctheid, onafhankelijkheid en efficiëntie hebben...

In elk geval zal de campagne die zelfingenomen westerse betweters voeren tegen het Chinese systeem de noodzakelijke samenwerking om de grote wereldproblemen samen aan te pakken verder bemoeilijken."

Today and tomorrow the office in Shanghai is closed due to mid autumn festival or moon festival.
Although I am not particularly fond of the mooncakes... I do wish I was in Shanghai now sharing one with my friends there!

Ergens op een ander landgoed, landgoed Rhederoord bij Arnhem, mocht ik 2 dagen geleden weer eens spreken voor een volle zaal. Zo fijn om weer mensen te ontmoeten en te spreken!

Today we can finally wrap up the year of the rat. Let's warmly welcome the ox!

After the storm of change that was 2020, 2021 will feel comparatively calm; the year of recovering from the struggles of 2020. We could all use a lengthy break but the universe doesn't take breaks, so we can't either. Instead, life will keep us occupied with some very life-affirming and energizing activities. This year we will all be like oxes: busy farming, waking up at the crack of dawn, working until our backs are sore, and sleeping with the satisfaction of a good solid day's work. The reward for all this is of course nourishment to get through the worst of future winters.

All things considered, it's not a bad metaphor: be like an ox and it will get you through the unknown!
