Saturni Records sent us the last 10 copies they had of Vergankelijk's Verloren In Het Doolhof Van Mijn Eigen Geest 8 inch single on transparent vinyl.

This debut from Belgian/Dutch project Vergankelijk is a raw and suffocating journey through depressive black and doom metal. Clocking in at just under ten minutes, it offers bleak, minimal riffs drenched in reverb, tortured vocals echoing from deep within, and a stark atmosphere that feels both intimate and cavernous. Fans of early Hypothermia, Nortt, or the darkest corners of the underground will find this a brief but potent exploration of existential despair.

Next to the Paranoid AAA master we posted earlier (sold out now!), there’s now a brand-new Kevin Gray remaster of the ultimate metal debut LP: Black Sabbath (1970)! 💀

Just like Paranoid, this one’s done the right way:

After some digging, it turns out this album has a much more complex history of mixes and masters than Paranoid. UK vs. US versions, added reverb, quad mixes, and decades of EQ experiments — but this 2024 cut brings it all back to its pure, original power. 👊

How many versions of Paranoid do we really need? 🤔

To find an answer, we had to dig deep—and here’s what we found. Below is a revised table listing the known official (and a few unofficial) mixes and masters of Paranoid:

📀 1970 – Original mix & master (original release)
📀 1996 – Ray Staff remaster (CD remaster)
📀 2009 – Andy Pearce remaster (CD remaster)
📀 2012 – Pearce & Wortham remaster (digital remaster)
📀 2016 – Reissue remaster (Vinyl/CD Super Deluxe)
📀 1974 → 2016 – Quadraphonic mix → stereo fold-down (remix/alternate mix)
📀 2020 – Same as 2016 Super Deluxe (repackaging)
📀 2023 – Prof. Stoned fan remix (unofficial remix)

And now, we have a brand-new Kevin Gray master in 2025. What’s the deal with it?

✅ 180g vinyl (honestly, 140g is enough—this is just for the “premium feel”)
✅ Pressed at Optimal Media in Germany
✅ Heavyweight gatefold jacket (it does look great)
✅ Insert with an interview featuring original engineer Tom Allom (interesting, but nothing groundbreaking)

But all of that is just packaging. The real question is: how does it sound?

🎧 Truthfully, there were a few moments where elements stood out more clearly than in older versions I own. The rest? Clean, crisp, and nicely separated. So yes—it’s a solid addition to the Paranoid legacy.

Is it worth the price Rhino slapped on it? That’s for you to decide. As for me, I’m no audio purist—I’ll leave the shoot-out to someone else. 😉
