In her essay, Misa Kranendonk examines the international reception of Mithila art through the work of Bhawani Devi, who participated as the only Indian woman in the 1989 Magiciens de la Terre exhibition in Paris. In her essay, Marika explores how the landscape paintings of the Peredvizhniki, a group of Russian artists active in the late nineteenth century, contributed to shaping a Russian national identity. Meet the Author – Siri Stutz 🧶 In Wartime Knitting Circles, Siri Stutz explores how knitting became intertwined with war, gender roles, and political activism in the United States. Through an analysis of Sabrina Gschwandtner’s participatory installation Wartime Knitting Circle, the essay examines how fiber crafts can function both as tools of oppression and as spaces for community, resistance, and dialogue.
