Throwback to the very first FASHIONCLASH Festival — 2009 🖤
From June 27 to July 5, FASHIONCLASH Maastricht took over the city of Maastricht — with the raw, industrial Timmerfabriek as the main stage.
The inaugural edition already embraced a multidisciplinary vision, showcasing fashion as a true art form — through shows, exhibitions, films, performances, and a public window display route that brought fashion to the streets and made it accessible to a wide audience.
The festival launched The Clash Project, curated in collaboration with Matylda Krzykowski — inviting artists and designers from outside the fashion world to create wearable pieces. This concept became a beloved recurring program, running annually for 10 editions.
The opening weekend featured the fashion show program, including the graduation show of the Maastricht Institute of Arts, followed by a week-long exhibition.
Among the first participants: Elisa van Joolen, Jimmy Paul, Nathalie Vanheule, Lonneke van der P***n, Levi van Veluw, Tanja Ritterbex, Valentina Vos, Linda Valkeman, Joost Horward, Christian Lagerwaard, Linda Maissan, Lisa Klappe, Leonid Babiichuck, Jan Taminiau, Linda Friesen, Hester Flamings, Angelo van Mol, Maartje Dijkstra, Femke Agema, Irene Heldens, Giorgio Toppin (XHOSA), Maryam Kordbacheh, Daisy Kroon — and FASHIONCLASH founders Nawie Kuiper, Laurens Hamacher, Els Petit-Carapiet & Branko Popovic.
