We got a new review! Véhémence - Assiégé pour l'éternité⚔️ 8/10

Few modern black metal forces capture the dust, blood, and soaring romanticism of the Middle Ages quite like France’s Véhémence. Emerging as a crown jewel of the Antiq records roster, this collective has spent over a decade perfecting a style widely hailed as "Medieval Black Metal." Instead of relying on the typical lo-fi frost or synthesized orchestrations that define the genre, Véhémence builds concrete, flesh-and-blood tapestries of sound. They blend traditional francophone lyricism and historical instrumentation with blistering, melodic extreme metal.

We got a new review! Niveous - Cult of the Void Star ⚔️ 9.5/10

Emerging from the frozen wastes of the American mid-west (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) the black metal trio Niveous has quietly spent the last two years sharpening their weapons. Formed in 2024 by Zygrath (Guitars), Vokar (Bass/Vocals), and Nortaath (Drums/Vocals), the latter of which contributed the absolutely stunning album artwork once again. The band made waves with their 2025 debut EP, “Endless Snowfall”, released via Transylvanian Recordings. That brief, 20-minute burst of icy metal hinted at a band with lofty ambitions and a healthy appreciation for the first and second wave of black metal.

We got a new review! Svrm - Мертвий край ⚔️ 9/10

Since 2015, Sergey Tkachenko has been quietly running Svrm out of Kharkiv, Ukraine, turning it into one of the most reliable names in atmospheric black metal. He doesn't do the usual gimmickry, no grand songs about fantasy folklore or ancient forests. Instead, Svrm’s music is completely grounded in human grief and real-world trauma. Over a steady stream of EPs and 3 full-length albums, Tkachenko has perfected a sound that blends the blistering, raw tremolo of black metal with the heavy, melodic ache of post-rock. On May 1, 2026, Svrm dropped "Мертвий край" ("Dead Land") via Vendetta Records, and it is easily his most suffocatingly sad and powerful release to date.

We got a new review! Via ad Mortem - Requiem I: Through the Path, over the Ruins ⚔️ 8.5 / 10

The underground has a new name to reckon with. Coming out of Italy, Via ad Mortem (Latin for “The way to death”) is a fresh new black metal project that also marks the explosive return of the resurrected Northern Darkness Records. The lineup features the combined forces of Hiems Silens (Guitars and Bass), alongside the dual vocal assault of Gibil (Drums) and Santamuertero Sinister (Keyboards). Instead of playing catch-up with safe, modern extreme metal trends, this trio looks backwards towards the second wave especially and inwards towards the roots of what black metal was meant to stand for.

We got a new review! Panopticon - Det hjemsøkte hjertet⚔️ 9/10

For nearly two decades, Austin Lunn has operated as the primary architect of Panopticon, a project that redefined atmospheric black metal by bleeding it into the soil of the American landscape. From the coal mines of Kentucky to the frost-shattered forests of Minnesota, Lunn’s work has always been a visceral intersection of heritage, environmental eulogy, and Appalachian folk. Following the sprawling Laurentian releases of 2025, Lunn has returned n 2026 with Det Hjemsøkte Hjertet ("The Haunted Heart").

We got a new review for you all! Non Est Deus - Blessings and Curses ⚔️

German blasphemous black metal band Non Est Deus return with their fifth album, Blessings and Curses. This one man band is a project from the talented musician and multi-instrumentalist Noise along with his other passion projects Kanonenfieber and Leiþa.

As the name unsubtly suggests this band deals with religion, or rather, Christianity. The philosophy behind it all and stripping it all down to a finely tuned yet fierce melodic art of someone vehemently against it all.

We got a new review! Forlorn Citadel - An Oath Undone ⚔️

Since emerging from the Australian wilderness in 2017, Forlorn Citadel, the visionary solo project of multi-instrumentalist Solace, has carved a unique niche within black metal. Blending the high-fantasy grandiosity of Summoning with a distinctly melancholic dungeon synth backbone, Solace has spent nearly a decade building a sonic fortress centered on medieval lore and the weight of history. While 2020’s Ashen Dirge of Kingslain established the project’s mastery of epic scale, the arrival of 2026 finds Forlorn Citadel at a crossroads. With a new album and the announcement of a transition into a live entity, the project is no longer a silent sentinel; it is a force actively carving its throne.

We got a new festival review! Inferno Metal Festival ⚔️

You know the drill legions, another easter has come and gone and I spent it blackened in Oslo for the Inferno Metal Festival! A black metal blast within the halls of Rockefeller and John Dee every easter in Oslo.

With my camera in hand and merch money in pocket I pointed my nose towards Oslo. If you want to read a more in-depth review of the festival and how it operates, check out my previous Inferno reviews from 2024 and 2025. If not enjoy the band reviews below, lets get into it!
