We are back with a new review for you! Burden of Ymir - The Long Winter ⚔️

Burden of Ymir is a Canadian black metal band hailing from Sudbury, Ontario. Consisting solely of multi-instrumentalist Joe Caswell, the band started off as an instrumental project, evolving and progressing its themes and narratives around Norse mythology and Scandinavian folklore. Having released five full length albums and several demos since 2019, Burden of Ymir has returned with album number six, The Long Winter

We are back with another review! Dreich - Edicius ⚔️

Depressing, gloomy, and oppressively bleak. But enough about Aberdeen, let’s talk about Dreich, a new band in the Scottish black metal scene who just released their debut EP. I was lucky to see Dreich open Fires of Alba MMXXV very recently, where afterwards I got asked the hopeful question “I don’t suppose you do album reviews as well as gig reviews, do you?” as I got passed an early copy of their new CD. Well, yes, yes I do.

We got a brand new festival review for you all! Fires of Alba MMXXV ⚔️

The Fires of Alba burned once more after the festival’s debut last year. I had a fantastic time at least years but was a bit worried whether it would return or not due to what appeared to be a rather sparse turnout – so I was happily surprised to see the flame flicker once more. This time boasting a stronger lineup which brought a larger turnout of fans.

We got a new interview for you all! ⚔️

A legend like Kristian Gaahl Espedal shouldn’t need much of an introduction, being the vocalist of Trelldom, Gaahlskag, Gorgoroth, God Seed and now most notably Gaahls Wyrd. So the oppurtunity to pick his brain about his music, art, and the black metal scene in general was one I couldn’t miss.

We got a new review from the vault for you all! This time its the now 30 year old Høstmørke by Isengard ⚔️

Høstmørke is the full length debut, preceeded by the 1989 demo Spectre over Gorgoroth and the compilation Vinterskugge in 1994. This album is built on a foundation of strong melodies, making it a much more “chant along while hiking in the forest” feel than what one could expect from the Darkthrone founder. The album starts of with the track Neslepaks which is a smart play on words and theme of the christian belief of “skapelsen” or “the creation”, when some old geezer with a beard supposedly decided to create our universe.

We got a new review for you this saturday ⚔️

March of the Broken was conceived as a conceptual album. It’s lyrical themes follow a group of survivors from their homeland, in search of a far off promised land. Their search however only yields despair and madness. But through this turmoil they are eventually able to regain themselves and in the end start anew. The story is also an allegory for Graven’s personal struggles and his journey to reclaiming himself through this adversity
