We got a new vault review for you all! Gates of Ishtar - At Dusk and Forever⚔️

Gates of Ishtar was a Swedish melodic black/death metal band from Luleå, active in the mid to late 90’s. Combining the intensity of black metal with the melody of the Gothenburg sound, they crafted a distinctive blend of aggression and emotion. Their acclaimed albums A Bloodred Path (1996) and At Dusk and Forever (1998) secured their legacy as an influential force in the melodic extreme metal scene. This band and album in particular will always have a special place in my heart. Being one of my earliest discoveries as a teenager, exploring metal's more extreme sub-genres. Gates of Ishtar bridged a gap for me between death metal and black metal, opening the doors for me into a realm I hadn't yet fully grasped. At Dusk and Forever is a classic of both genres and stands the test of time still to this day.

We got a new review for you all! Lamp of Murmuur - The Dreaming Prince in Ecstasy ⚔️

Lamp of Murmuur's sole member, M. brings forth a 53 minute 9 track opus about fallen gods and angels in an incredible style, much different from the raw black metal he introduced to us on the first two albums, and as well on other material he has released thus far. I would dare say Saturnian Bloodstorm was a tad different than the previous two releases before, offering an atmospheric album worship akin to the band Immortal that sounded like Blizzard Beasts and At the Heart of Winter. So let us finally talk about The Dreaming Prince in Ecstasy.

The first half of the album is atmospheric symphonic black metal mixed with melodic guitar riffs and charged bomb blastbeats to both draw the listener in and make their ears burn in ecstasy.

We got a new review foe you all! Haimad - When Night Rode Across the North ⚔️

The album opens with the title track, which immediately reintroduces the core elements that defined Haimad’s early material. Cold, tremolo picked guitar melodies, prominent keyboards, and vocals that lean into a harsh but controlled delivery. The songwriting is steady rather than flashy, and the atmosphere is built through repetition and layering rather than oversized orchestration. The band keeps a firm grip on the balance between guitars and keyboards, allowing both to carry the narrative without one overwhelming the other.

We got a new live review for you all ⚔️ A Night of British Black Metal ⚔️

Wulfhere Productions return to the haunted underground tunnels of The Banshee Labyrinth in the Old Town district of Edinburgh to bring us four British black metal bands of varied styles for a local showcase of fantastic extreme metal acts.

After meeting with friends for some pre-show drinks and chat, we made our way to the venue for doors opening, and just as last time it’s another sold-out show in the cramped basement vault.

We got a review from the vault for you! Summoning - Stronghold ⚔️

Summoning, the long-running Austrian duo of Richard “Protector” Lederer and Michael “Silenius” Gregor, occupy a unique position in the history of black metal. Emerging in the early 1990s alongside the second wave of the genre, they quickly diverged from its orthodox form. Instead of aggression, they sought atmosphere; instead of satanic revolt, they found inspiration in myth and melancholy. Drawing heavily from the legendarium of J.R.R. Tolkien, Summoning reshaped black metal into something closer to musical world-building, an auditory reconstruction of the landscapes, histories, and emotions that haunt Middle-earth.

We got a new review for you! Achathras - A Darkness of the Ancient Past ⚔️

From the depths of the modern black metal underground emerges Achathras with their debut full-length debut album A Darkness of the Ancient Past. Steeped in mystery (there is little to no information about its members, origin, or location) and devoting themselves to the sound and ex*****on of the genre’s second wave. In an era where many black metal bands drift toward post-metal influence or ironic detachment, Achathras stands defiantly apart. Their vision seems to be one of solemn reverence, a rekindling of the flames that first animated black metal’s cold heart in the early hours of 90s.

We got a new review for you all! Dense Fog - Dense Fog ⚔️

Dense Fog is Summoning worship at its absolute finest. A master class in blending classical music with Atmospheric black metal. Its 4 breath-taking tracks flow seamlessly, keeping the listener engaged in its melancholy and majesty.

Upon listening to this album I was struck by just how similar Dense Fog is to Summoning at times, while not being simply a cheap imitation or knock off. The albums 4 tracks instead are rather a love letter to the genre and in particular Summoning. Expanding upon the sound and incorporating their own personality and influence upon its foundation.

We got a new review for you all! Heimland - Der Torv Moeter Hav ⚔️

Der Torv Moeter Hav is the first release with Fanden on vocals and he brings his own fire to the table. Gnarly, fiesty and powerful, like an angry hound are the sounds that is spat out of Fanden's mouth. Fanden has a snappy delivery as if he is coming to bite off your face if you get to close. This is very prominent on the first track Vagrant. First time listening to Vagrant I got a heavy reminance of Antzaat and their song For You Men Who Gaze into the Sun which has a simular structure and sound.

We got a new review for you this Friday eve! White Rune - Eventide on Aurora ⚔️

Emerging from Finland’s ever-fertile black metal scene, White Rune was founded by brothers Ruttokieli (Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Keys) and Soldau (Drums). Since their formation in 2021, the duo has carved out a distinctive niche by merging the frostbitten aggression of traditional Finnish black metal with sweeping melodic and atmospheric tendencies. Their early demos later compiled as The Spell of Eternal Fire introduced that duality, while their 2022 full-length debut album Dawn of the White Rune expanded it into something more grand and symphonic. Now White Rune has returned with their sophomore release Eventide on Aurora.

We got a new review for you all! Abominator - The Fire Brethren ⚔️

"The Templar's Curse" begins with an eerie sound of distant church bells and eerily winds married with guitar volumes fading in and out sounding like a razor about to cut your head off, and it does. It unleashes with blazing guitar riffs and marching blast beats from the gate chanting about their hatred for Christianity, which we all like to listen to black metal for. Ready for more Hell? I thought you might, because with "Underworld Vociferations" , that's exactly what you're gonna get again with more relentless riffs and blast beats punching you over and over in your ears until you beg for mercy.

We got a new review for you tonight! Nøkk - Heartless ⚔️

Nøkk’s “Heartless" marks a decisive evolution for the Ohio based black metal project, presenting a record that feels both sharpened by experience and broadened in emotional scope. Their 2023 EP “Repel the Incursion" hinted at the band’s ability to merge atmosphere with riff centric songwriting, and “Heartless” confirms that potential with confidence. Across 6 tracks and roughly 40 minutes, Nøkk has crafted an album that is unflinchingly bleak but also strikingly dynamic, offering a listening experience that is immersive without sacrificing intensity.
