“Not an extraordinary or special situation,” said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., describing the intensifying weather patterns ravaging the nation.

With all due respect, Mr. President—this is extraordinary.

When entire towns are submerged, when lives are lost in landslides, when farmers harvest grief instead of crops, and when classrooms become evacuation centers—we are not in ordinary times. We are standing at the precipice of an environmental catastrophe that demands far more than passive observation or dismissive statements.

It’s both outrageous and absurd: government agencies are dangling Compensatory Time Off (CTO) like a cheap reward just to lure employees into braving typhoons and floods.

Have we really come to a point where bureaucratic routine outweighs human lives? What’s more valuable—a few extra days off, or the safety and survival of their people?

They may be safe at the hotels or venues of the events but how about their way in and out of these places. Most of the Metro and other places are either flooded or have less means of transportation. Unlike the top management who have their own service vehicles complete with drivers, their staff do not have the same convenience and luxury.

Declare a NATIONAL CLIMATE EMERGENCY NOW!

𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗔 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗬 𝗡𝗢𝗪!

Since 2019 GPP Kalikasan Muna - Green Party of the Philippines along with other organizations have been calling for the declaration of a National Climate Emergency. In 2023, we renewed this call and was spearheaded by the Rights of Nature PH.

Now, we once again call on the national government to DECLARE A CLIMATE EMERGENCY and pass a Climate Emergency Act that will demand proper and appropriate action to resolve the current crisis being driven by the ongoing Climate Crisis. It is important to resolve the challenges we are facing now using a proactive lens and not just do the same thing we are doing over and over again.

1. Push for a circular economy nationwide.
2. Total ban on single use plastics.
3. Moratorium on environmental destructive projects including moratorium.
4. Rehabilitation of watersheds and full protection of watershed areas.
5. Passage of an alternative minerals management act and repeal of the mining act of 1995.
6. Claim of loss and damage in behalf of those affected by climate change to key polluters and even bringing them to court.
7. Signing of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treat.
8. Full implementation of the Renewable Energy Act.
9. Full implementation of the Environmental Education Act.
10. Full implementation of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.
11. Funding for innovative projects and innovation starting with support for Project Noah.
12. Establishment of a Department of Water Resources.
13. Comprehensive cleaning, declogging, and improvement of all waterways, rivers, etc.
14. Passage of a comprehensive land use act and moratorium on agricultural land conversion.
15. Implementation of active transport, and alternative mobility and transportation.
16. Implementation of a sustainable storm water management.
17. Amendment of the building code to implement green infrastructure.
18. Implementation of a climate resilient and breen infrastructure and encouraging the public to also do the same.
19. Comprehensive hazard mapping nationwide.
20. Establishment of separate crucial evacuation centers and moving away from using schools as evacuation centers as much as we can.

These are just some of the things that need to be done and I am sure that there are more. If we want to proactively move forward, action must be done now! We need to act for a better and greener future.

The skies have yet to offer mercy.

As Metro Manila and large swaths of Luzon reel from days of relentless downpour, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a sobering declaration on the morning of July 22: the worst may not be over. With swollen rivers, flooded communities, and paralyzed urban centers already straining under the monsoon’s weight, new threats loom on the horizon.

According to PAGASA, the southwest monsoon—or habagat—is far from finished soaking the nation. Fueled by a brewing storm system in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the rains are expected to intensify and persist until at least Thursday, July 24.

What began as seasonal showers has now evolved into a prolonged weather crisis with life-threatening consequences.

The Constitution is clear: no member of the House of Representatives shall serve more than three consecutive terms. Yet here we are, with Yedda Romualdez poised to reenter the House for a fourth straight term—just under a different banner.

From 2016 to 2019, she served as Leyte’s 1st District Representative. From 2019 to 2022, and again from 2022 to 2025, she represented Tingog party-list. Now, once more, she is stepping forward as a returning lawmaker, her fourth consecutive term, skating on the technicality that these were different “positions.”

This is not just a legal gray area—it is a moral black hole.

Some will argue that the Constitution is silent on switching from district to party-list seats. But that silence is not consent. The spirit of term limits is unmistakable: no one should hold on to power indefinitely. Political life, like public trust, is not a personal possession to be inherited, rotated, or disguised.

And so we ask: what happened to delicadeza?

Let’s be clear from the start: there was no drug overdose. There was no white powder scattered across the room. And there was absolutely no involvement from First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos.

Yet that hasn’t stopped a malicious smear campaign, largely fueled by elements aligned with the notorious Duterte Diehard Supporters (DDS), from manipulating a man’s tragic death to push a political agenda. This orchestrated effort to distort the truth and drag innocent names through the mud is as cruel as it is calculated.

In what could become a pivotal moment in the history of environmental diplomacy, negotiators from every corner of the globe will gather this August in Geneva, Switzerland — united not just by urgency, but by an escalating planetary emergency that threatens every ecosystem, every shoreline, and every single human being: the global plastic crisis.

With oceans choking, wildlife suffering, and microplastics invading the very bloodstreams of people across continents, Geneva’s upcoming summit may be the world’s last chance to forge a binding, landmark agreement to halt the relentless march of plastic pollution.

But as policymakers prepare to enter high-level rooms to shape the future, a groundswell of civil society groups, environmental activists, scientists, and frontline communities are already mobilizing to ensure the negotiations won’t be just more talk — but a global turning point.

On the volcanic island of Camiguin, where mountains meet the sea and typhoons brush past with quiet fury, 40 young hearts from across Mindanao came face-to-face with the silent emergency gripping the planet—climate change.

For ten days, from May 30 to June 7, the Climate Science Youth Camp (CSYC) 2025 transformed high school students and teachers into environmental warriors armed not just with scientific knowledge but with a deep, soul-shaking understanding of what it means to fight for the future.

This was no ordinary camp. It was a crucible—blending science, service, and a sense of stewardship to mold the next generation of Filipino climate leaders.
