From Concept to Creative Worlds: Building Scenes and Key Visuals for Creative & VFX Teams

Monday, August 11 | 5:00 PM CEST

Strong key visuals and finished scenes take time to realize, and the look is often locked in before you can see how all the pieces fit together. This practical session will show how Creative Cloud's generative AI and connected 3D and compositing tools allow creative and VFX teams to take an idea from concept to a fully textured, lit, and realized scene - all within a single workflow.

During the session, you'll learn how to use:
• Firefly & Firefly Boards – for collaborative moodboards and storyboards, to ideate worlds, objects, and full shots
• Photoshop – to refine and art-direct your generative AI frames before you build
• Substance 3D – to find your ideal hero object, then texture and light it to perfection
• Substance Stager – to combine assets with your Firefly Boards world and bring the final shot to life
• After Effects – to add finesse in the new 3D workflow

Last minute change!
Heba Othman (Egypt) is unable to attend the event this Saturday. But we are happy to annouce that Katharina Wartena (The Netherlands) has been added to the panel. Her film WHITETAIL (Nanouk Leopold) will have its world premiere at IFFR 2026.

In a fast changing world, film editing is very much in motion. How do editors from around the world deal with the increasing responsibilities of their editorial teams, created by the fast growing amount of possibilities available to them on their creative journey?

The panel will feature Dávid Jancsó, ACE, HSE (Hungary), the Academy Award-nominated editor of THE BRUTALIST, with whom we’ll discuss working on high-end international productions as a European, and on using AI in editing, as well as Katharina Wartena (The Netherlands), editor of WHITETAIL, and Sophie Fourdrinoy (France) who cut IFFR’s closing film BAZAAR.

The event will take place from 16h30 to 19h30 in the Van Cappellen zaal in De Doelen in Rotterdam. Attendees are also invited for a mixer in De Doelen, Studio 3 from 19h45, after the panel session.

On Saturday, January 31, the International Film Festival Rotterdam teams up with the editors organization NCE (The Netherlands) and TEMPO, the Federation of Film Editors Associations, to present a special panel hosting celebrated editors from across the world, who will share insights in their art and craft.
