De laatste loodjes! De mix is klaar. Het artwork bijna, en deze week wordt het album gemastered (technisch klaar gemaakt voor CD productie). Tenslotte wordt er nog gewerkt aan de video voor de single ‘Building Castles In The Sky’.
Op 1 september wordt de titel en artwork van mijn nieuwe album bekend gemaakt. Op mijn website is nu een pagina te vinden met updates en vooral achtergrond informatie, geheel gewijd aan dat ‘nieuwe album’. Er valt een hoop over te vertellen. Neem er gerust een kijkje. (www.tonscherpenzeel.com)

the final stretch! The mix is ready. The artwork is virtually finished, and the album is being mastered this week (technically prepared for CD production). Then there’still some work to do for the video of the upcoming single ‘Building Castles In The Sky’.
The title and artwork for my new album will be revealed on September 1st. There is now a page on my website—entirely dedicated to that ‘new album’—featuring updates and, above all, background information. There is really a lot to say about it. Feel free to take a look.

Pigeonholing

To get your music onto streaming platforms, you have to fill in all sorts of details. Among other things, you have to specify the genre your creations supposedly fall under. The idea is to ensure that subscribers can discover new music that matches their preferences.

I personally had ‘alternative folky sympho baroque synthesizer songwriter orchestral keyboards renaissance neo classical pop rock’ in mind, but—alas—that category turns out not to exist. I was forced to choose just one.

As it happens, the label releasing my records is called OOB Records —short for ‘Out Of the Box’. That is precisely the category my music—and certainly the material on my upcoming album—falls into.

Unfortunately, that isn’t an option on the streaming services either. Oh well, I still have a couple of weeks to find the right label for my music. That’s when the album needs to be submitted digitally so it can go live on November 20th. Maybe I’ll just choose ‘grunge’, so that even unlikely target audiences get served my music. Who wouldn't want to find a new audience to discover his music?

And of course, do give it a listen on streaming platforms if you use them; every stream counts. But by getting a physical album (in this case, a CD, and perhaps even a vinyl version if there’s enough interest), you’re doing not just me, but—more importantly—yourself a huge favor. A lot of people worked hard on this with me, and it comes with a (in my opinion) beautiful booklet containing all the lyrics, illustrations, and information.

New release - Ton Scherpenzeel:

Op 16 september verschijnen op OOB Records gelijktijdig twee singles, afkomstig van en vooruitlopend op mijn nieuwe solo album (dat later dit jaar uitkomt): Building Castles In The Sky en Sunset On Mars. Wie het artwork bekijkt, ziet daar een tweede naam: Thomas Schiphof.
Ergens begin dit jaar stuitte ik, al Youtubend, toevallig op zijn uitvoering van mijn liedje La Joueuse de Luth. Daarvan was ik zo onder de indruk, dat hem heb gevraagd of hij 'een paar nummers zou willen zingen op mijn komende album. Twee maanden later had Thomas er niet minder dan tien ingezongen.

On September 16, two singles from my upcoming solo album (due out later this year)- "Building Castles In The Sky" and "Sunset On Mars"—will be released simultaneously on OOB Records. Anyone looking at the artwork will notice a second name there: Thomas Schiphof.
Sometime early this year, while browsing YouTube, I happened upon his rendition of my song "La Joueuse de Luth." I was so impressed by it that I asked him if he would be willing to sing "a few" tracks on my upcoming album. Two months later, Thomas had recorded vocals for no fewer than ten songs.
