πŸ””πŸ”” 4th October, Zuidekerk Amsterdam πŸ””πŸ””

4 Bells for Freedom was inspired by the inscription on one of the bells of the Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam: "Cherish freedom above all, so it protects you." The project wants to inspire a wide social dialogue about freedom, both in Amsterdam and beyond. Through its various events, 4 Bells for Freedom creates a platform for conversations, discussions, and workshops that explore the meaning and boundaries of freedomβ€”on a societal as well as a personal level. All of these encounters ultimately come together in the freedom cantata Cantica Libertatis, a new composition by Marion von Tilzer. The work weaves together quotations from well-known people such as F.D. Roosevelt, Anne Frank, Linda Nooitmeer, and Baruch Spinoza, alongside unheard voices collected from community interactions. It will be performed by the Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam youth choir, a spoken word artist, and a multicultural ensemble.

The performance of Cantica Libertatis will take place on 4 October 2025 in the Zuiderkerk, Amsterdam, accompanied by light sculptures created by Rob van den Broek.

4 Bells for Freedom is an initiative from Marion von Tilzer and her foundation in collaboration with the Amsterdam community art collective Moving Arts Project. www.marionvontilzer.com

🌍✨ Earlier this month Donemus attended the Orchestras Now Conference in Wroclaw, Poland!

From inspiring panel discussions, connecting with wonderful people to an unforgettable concert led by Giovanni Antonini β€” it was a fantastic opportunity to share ideas, discuss and promote the CoCommissions Network 🎢

Thank you Iva Micanovic for representing Donemus in Poland. We are looking forward to more opportunities to meet with musical colleagues from all over the world ✨

The opening piece of the new CD WONDERINGS is a real experience and excellently chosen to start the album with. The Argentine-Dutch composer Carlos Michns wrote in 2012 'Funf Kommentare zu Ich ruf zu dir. . ' for clarinet and harp. This work, which is based on the famous Bach Coral of the same name, lasts 14 minutes, but fascinates from beginning to end to such an extent that the listener probably feels like playing the piece himself! The exemplary collaboration with harpist Joost Willemze is striking. In addition, we hear the constant vibrato of Braithwaite, which fits very well in this work, because it gives the impression of an organ tremolo, as is often used in a Bach chorale.

Nancy Braithwaite – Wonderings and others Revelations: this album lowers the barriers without diluting the rigor.

On Saturday 20 September 2025, the Mallet Collective's CD Views from Dutch trains will be released and presented at a concert in the Kunstkerk in Dordrecht. All the pieces on the album are about or can be associated with train travel. Think of passing landscapes, crowded platforms, unexpected encounters, moments of reflection or a compartment full of screaming children. Composers Anastas Paev and Jannum Kruidhof give their own vision on this theme in works written especially for this album. Composer Jacob ter Veldhuis wrote his Views from a Dutch train, which forms the basis of the album, back in 1992. Works by Anthony Fiumara and Jo, Antal and Misha Sporck, which are also featured on the CD, will also be performed. The Mallet Collective plays in varying line-ups and for this project consists of marimba players Ramon Lormans and Georgi Tsenov. Sometimes you find yourself standing on a crowded platform with lots of other people. And sometimes you just manage to catch the last train home as the evening draws to a close. With this music, the Mallet Collective wants to show what train travel sounds like: peaceful and dreamy, but also busy and full of life. It reminds us how special travelling by train is..

Maxim Shalygin Canto Paradiso
Canto Paradiso was commissioned by AAVROTROSVrijdagconcert It was written as a continuation of the first part called Canto Inferno, which I wrote last year for the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Both works use a choir, but unlike Canto Inferno, where the soloist takes on the main function, in Canto Paradiso the choir is both a narrator and a participant in the drama on an equal footing with the orchestra. The text, written by Alexander Sushinsky especially for the piece, like the music, is full of humor, allusions, beauty and drama – all in one bottle.
The world premiere will take place on Friday, 19 September 2025, in Utrecht TTivoliVredenburgwith the RRadio Filharmonisch Orkestand the GGroot Omroepkoorconducted by KKarina Canellakisin the broadcasting series AVROTROS Friday Concert.
