The Hague Unveils Scheveningen Harbor Vision 2025–2050: A Strategic Blueprint for a Future-Proof Port

The Municipality of The Hague has officially presented the Scheveningen Harbor Vision 2025–2050, a comprehensive plan to position Scheveningen Harbor as a leading center of the blue economy integrating business, innovation, recreation, and environmental stewardship.

Rooted in centuries of maritime tradition, Scheveningen Harbor will retain its core function as a working port while adapting to contemporary challenges, including climate change and the energy transition. The fishing industry remains a pillar of this vision, supported by initiatives such as the Seafood Central Holland hub, which promotes sustainable fisheries, education, and community engagement.

The harbor’s development will be organized into three distinct zones:
• The First Harbor will concentrate on fisheries-related enterprises.
• The Second Harbor will focus on recreational activities, watersports, and small maritime businesses.
• The Third Harbor will serve as an innovation hub for maritime technology and start-ups.

No new residential construction is planned within the harbor precinct to preserve its operational integrity.

Alderman Saskia Bruines (Economic Development) remarked:
“This vision reflects a careful balance between economic growth, innovation, sustainability, and heritage preservation. It is the result of extensive collaboration among all harbor stakeholders and lays a strong foundation for Scheveningen’s future.”

Industry representatives, including Arnout Langerak of Cornelis Vrolijk, emphasized the importance of safeguarding the fishing sector for future generations. Meanwhile, local community advocate Coen de Jong emphasized ongoing commitment to maintaining Scheveningen’s identity as a genuine working harbor.

To ensure effective implementation, The Hague will establish a new governance framework fostering integrated cooperation between the municipality and stakeholders, thereby securing a sustainable and prosperous future for Scheveningen Harbor.

🇧🇴BOLIVIA 200 YEARS STRONG A CELEBRATION OF ROOTS, RESISTANCE & REBIRTH 🇧🇴

From the towering Andes to the lush Amazon, Bolivia brought its spirit and story to The Hague 🇳🇱 in a powerful Bicentennial event honoring culture, courage, and ancestral pride.

The Embassy of Bolivia to the Netherlands, represented by H.E. Roberto Calzadilla Sarmiento, Ambassador of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, together with Ms. Edith Bengansius, President of the Hispanoamericana Association of The Hague, played a pivotal role in hosting this impactful event centered around the conference:

“History of Bolivia: The Struggle of Indigenous Peoples, Women, Their Rights, and Claims.”

This powerful reflection highlighted the silenced voices and resistance that have shaped Bolivia’s identity beyond conventional narratives. Ambassador Calzadilla emphasized that Bolivia’s history is not simply a timeline of independence and institutions, but a complex tapestry woven by Indigenous nations, courageous women, and tireless rebels who forged freedom long before 1825.

The celebration continued with a soul-stirring Willka Kuti the Andean-Amazonic New Year led by the esteemed Bolivian artist and Master Aymara, Roberto Callisaya, who also facilitated an inspiring workshop on ancestral music. Sacred coca leaves, ancestral melodies, and deep Indigenous wisdom connected all present to Bolivia’s living heartbeat.

This was far more than a commemoration, it was a reclamation of identity and dignity; a vivid reminder that Bolivia’s strength is rooted in its ancient, resilient peoples and their enduring legacy.

🇧🇴 Proudly Plurinational. Proudly Indigenous. Proudly Bolivia. 🇧🇴

At The Peace Palace, The Hague — 2nd Edition of the AAA-ICDR Future Dispute Resolution Conference, 2025

On June 10, the iconic Peace Palace hosted the 2nd Edition of the AAA-ICDR Future Dispute Resolution Conference. The keynote by Dr. Hab. Marcin Czepelak, Secretary-General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), set the stage for a deep dive into the transformative impact of AI on international dispute resolution.

Leading legal experts, cross-border researchers, mediators, arbitrators, judges, and corporate leaders came together to explore how AI is reshaping dispute resolution:

AI accelerates case management and data analysis but demands rigorous ethical oversight.

Human judgment and empathy remain essential, AI is a tool, not a replacement. Collaboration across law, tech, business, and academia is vital for fairness and transparency.

Agile policy frameworks are urgently needed to keep pace with technological change.

The conference highlighted the urgent need to harness AI responsibly building a dispute resolution future that is faster, fairer, and globally accessible.

Justice in this era of profound technological transformation demands incisive intellect, resolute courage, and unparalleled collaboration—anchored by authentic human judgment and meaningful interaction.

The pressing question remains—are we truly prepared to rise to this challenge?
