Updates on the Wilders hate speech trial for non-Dutch speakers:

It has been established that the statements made by MP Geert Wilders (PVV) are not lawful as he 'willingly offended' a distinct group within society - this means that what constitutes a race or ethnic group has now been expanded within Dutch jurisprudence.

Hate speech has not been sufficiently demonstrated.

Geert Wilders will not incur any kind of punishment, as the court believes the goal of the trial - establishing what constitutes unlawful, offensive speech directed at a specific societal group - has been reached.

Mr Wilders will appeal the decision.
