🖌️ French artist Abel Burger is inspired by an ongoing interest in memory, ancient imagery, and the way the body carries traces of experience. “I often use oblique forms and fragmented shapes because they create a sense of quiet tension and inward movement. The piece came naturally, as part of my attempt to translate a feeling more than a narrative”, Abel says.

“My work often combines ancient paper, organic materials, and drawn or painted fragments. I’m drawn to images that sit between the sacred and the intimate, as if they belong to a dream or a memory that isn’t fully mine. Ideas usually begin with a sensation, a colour, a shape, a texture. Then I follow it patiently until it reveals a form. I try to let the work lead rather than impose a fixed concept from the start.”

✏️Visual artist Nina van de Ven gave several workshops at the end of 2025 to participants of the daytime activities of De Sam .sam.biezenmortel at Landpark Assisië in Biezenmortel, a residential facility for people with intellectual disabilities. During the first workshop, the group worked on cadavre exquis: a drawing game in which multiple people take turns contributing to a single drawing. This resulted in unexpected, often humorous and bizarre fantasy creatures. In the following workshops, individual fantasy creatures and elements from nature were drawn. Based on these results, Nina created two new works in which the participants’ drawings reappear on jackets through patches, buttons, pins, and embroidery.

Nina’s newest works will be presented during Festival Nabij, organised by at Landpark Assisië on May 9 and 10 in Biezenmortel, near Tilburg. The exhibition also features work by .tommysmits and , both of whom previously completed a residency at De Sam.

During the festival, Nina van de Ven will host a free sidewalk chalk-drawing workshop, where participants will collaboratively create large-scale fantasy creatures.

See you there!

📕 Dom Campistron is an illustrator from the Basque Country, living in the village of Aldude. She studied textile design in Paris before joining the Graphic Design department at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Her work mainly focuses on LGBTQIA+ representation.

For her work in Wobby #42, she took inspiration from her memories of a traditional local ritual, Libertimendua.
