Tenuta San Guido - Sassicaia 2001 ( 96 TSW)

This Sas really was spot on during our tasting. I didn't expected this but it delivered 🫶

Now fully mature yet still impressively vibrant, it showcases why this vintage is so often cited among the estate’s finest of the early 2000s.

In the glass a deep garnet core with a slowly fading brick-tinged rim—clear signs of graceful bottle age but still youthful concentration.

On the palate dry, medium + bodied with notes of blackcurrant, wild berries and plums with subtle notes of leather, forest floor, and sweet spices with hints of herbs, to***co, cedar, and graphite and light leather, forest floor, and sweet spices.

Silky tannins that have integrated perfectly over time and a lively acidity that keeps the wine lifted and fresh showing aroms of cassis, dark cherry, cedar, and earthy undertones ending with a long and savory finish.

A superbly refined Sassicaia that captures the estate’s signature elegance. It delivers complexity, poise, and a captivating evolution in the glass. A standout vintage and a deeply rewarding bottle for anyone lucky enough to experience it.

Duemani - Altrovino 2022 (92+ TSW)

Appearance
In the glass a deep purple-red colour with violet reflections and an almost black core.

On the nose it starts a bit reserved and tight, but with some airing opens up beautifully. You snell aromas of blackberries, plums and licorice with hints of graphite, spices and cacao.

On the palate, the wine is juicy, rich, and concentrated. Aromas of deep cassis, cherries and rich plums with chocolate in the back. The tannins are finely grained giving structure with a medium + finish. Nice to retaste over some years. Youthfull but accessible after decanting.

Vinification: spontaneous (wild) fermentation in concrete tanks, then aged ~8 months in concrete plus further maturation in French and Slavonian oak.

Biodynamic Farming - The grapes for this cuvée (Merlot + Cabernet Franc) come from biodynamically farmed vineyards on the Tuscan coast.

Sustainability & Philosophy: Duemani is known for its commitment to sustainable and regenerative farming practices. The biodynamic approach shows their dedication to soil health, biodiversity, and respecting natural cycles.

Poliziano - Asinone 2010 94+ TSW

Poliziano is one of the leading producers in Montepulciano, Tuscany, known for crafting expressive, modern-leaning wines rooted in classic Sangiovese character.

Vigne del Asinone, commonly referred to simply as Asinone is the estate’s flagship bottling, produced only in the best vintages and sourced from a single vineyard shaped like a donkey’s back (“asinone” in Italian). The 2010 vintage is widely regarded as elegant, balanced, and age-worthy.

My tasting notes:

In the glass a deep ruby core with slight garnet hues at the rim, showing early signs of maturity.

On the nose highly aromatic with layers of black cherry, ripe plum, and blackberry with hints of leather, to***co leaf, cedar, sweet spices and dried herbs.

On the palate dry, full-bodied yet refined, with a beautiful balance between fruit richness and structural elegance with dark fruits and earthy hints.

Silky but firm tannins, showing maturity without losing grip. Long, persistent finish with lingering spice, cherry, and mineral tones.

Age worthy. Lovely wine

✨ La Sommelleria — the rare half-magnum bottling of Il Caberlot, available exclusively to importers. Even more elusive than Il Caberlot itself. A true collector’s gem. 🍷

Il Caberlot is the iconic flagship wine of Podere Il Carnasciale — a real unicorn in the wine world. It is the only wine on the planet made from the mysterious Caberlot grape, a natural crossing of Cabernet Franc and Merlot discovered in the wild near Verona.

Have you ever tried this wine - variety?

My notes:

🍷 In the glass a deep ruby color with garnet highlights.

👃On the nose ripe blackcurrants, dark cherries, violets, with light hints of cedar, to***co, and spice.

👅 On the palate full-bodied and structured, with rich dark fruit, refined tannins, and bright acidity. Notes of dark chocolate, sweet spices, and subtle minerality lead to a long, elegant finish.

This is still a baby and will benefit for 10-15 years cellaring - lucky I have some more in the cellar.

In 1986, founders Wolf and Bettina Rogosky, together with oenologist Vittorio Fiore, took a daring leap: planting this unknown grape on a tiny 0.3-ha vineyard in Tuscany. No one had vinified Caberlot before… and the rest is history.

The grapes now come from four small plots — Carnasciale, Selva, Vincaie and Perelli — each vinified and aged separately to capture their unique terroirs. After meticulous hand-selection, the grapes ferment in small stainless-steel tanks and age for 22 months in predominantly new French barriques, followed by at least 18 months of bottle maturation.

Every barrel is tasted and judged: only the most structured, complex and aromatic lots are chosen for Il Caberlot, bottled unfiltered exclusively in magnums.

A wine of depth, elegance and mystery — crafted with patience, intuition and absolute precision.

Wow. Very nice Austria blend from

93+ TSW points.

The Bela Rex 2021 is a red cuvée from Weingut Gesellmann, based in Deutschkreutz in Austria’s Burgenland region. The wine is composed of 50 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 50 % Merlot.

It is certified organic and expresses the estate’s commitment to serious red-wine production.

Each varietal is vinified separately. Spontaneous (i.e., natural) maceration is done in stainless steel tanks, with the cap (mash) submerged 2-4 times daily.

Malolactic fermentation (biological acid conversion) takes place in oak barrels.

Elevated ageing: ~25 months in small oak barrels, followed by ~6 months in large wooden casks (after blending).

In the glass a very deep dark ruby color with violet edges.

On the medium+ nose dark berries, black­ cherries and notes of spices, figs and ight cedar.

On the palate dry, medium++ bodied with nice round tannins (with some grip) and nice acidity and freshness. The key is elegance in this one.

Dark berries, chocolate and some licorice in this beautiful wine. I guess this has a way to go but already very good. Great potential.
