There are evenings when everything simply falls into place. Our stop in Nuremberg brought us to Minneci, an elegant Italian restaurant where refined cuisine met an equally impressive wine selection.

Each course was thoughtfully prepared, balancing purity of flavour with modern presentation. But what truly made the evening memorable was the opportunity to explore three exceptional wines 🫶

🍷 Von Winning – Marmar 2016
A remarkable single-vineyard Riesling from one of Germany's most respected estates. After almost a decade in bottle, the wine has evolved beautifully, revealing layers of ripe citrus, white peach, subtle herbal notes and delicate hints of flint. Its vibrant acidity keeps everything perfectly balanced, proving once again why great Riesling is among the world's finest age-worthy wines.

🍷 Von Winning – Ozyetra 2018
A wine that showcases the more powerful and Burgundian side of Riesling. Rich and textured, yet remarkably precise, it combines ripe stone fruit with smoky minerality, toasted almonds and a touch of spice. Concentrated without ever feeling heavy, this is a wine built for both gastronomy and patience.

🍷 Fontodi – Flaccianello della Pieve 2021
One of Tuscany's true icons. Produced entirely from Sangiovese, Flaccianello continues to define elegance and power in perfect harmony. The 2021 vintage offers vibrant aromas of black cherries, violets, Mediterranean herbs and graphite, supported by medium+ tannins and extraordinary freshness. A wine of immense depth that promises decades of graceful evolution.

Esterházy – Blaufränkisch Sekt Austria Blanc de Noir Große Reserve Brut Nature 2019 (92 TSW)

🍇 Variety: 100% Blaufränkisch, crafted as a Blanc de Noirs.

🌍 Appellation: Burgenland, Austria – from the Ried Herrschaftsbreite vineyard in Grosshöflein, planted on Leithakalk (limestone) soils. Certified as Sekt Austria Große Reserve, Austria's highest designation for traditional-method sparkling wine.

⚱️ Vinification: Hand-harvested into small crates, whole-cluster white pressing, spontaneous fermentation of the base wine in stainless steel, followed by traditional bottle fermentation and 36 months on the lees. Bottled as Brut Nature (Zero Dosage) with just 0.7 g/L residual sugar.

🍇 Producer: Weingut Esterházy – one of Burgenland's benchmark estates, combining centuries of Esterházy heritage with a modern, terroir-focused philosophy. The estate is particularly known for expressing indigenous Austrian varieties such as Blaufränkisch and Chardonnay through both still and traditional-method sparkling wines.

🪙 Price range: €38–45

🥂 In the glass, a pale straw-yellow colour with silver reflections and an fine, persistent mousse.

👃 On the nose elegant and refined with white peach, crisp apple, pear and citrus zest, followed by delicate brioche, fresh yeast and a pronounced chalky minerality.

👅 On the palate bone dry and focused, showing vibrant citrus, white orchard fruit and saline minerality. The extended lees ageing brings subtle brioche and creamy texture, while the lively acidity drives a long and precise finish.

🍽️ Perfect with oysters, caviar, sashimi, ceviche, grilled seafood, veal, fresh goat cheese or simply as a sophisticated aperitif.

👉 Overview: Esterházy's 2019 Blaufränkisch Blanc de Noirs Große Reserve Brut Nature is a compelling demonstration of Austria's world-class sparkling wine potential. Made from 100% Blaufränkisch and aged for three years on the lees, it combines precision, minerality and impressive finesse. More reminiscent of a top grower Champagne than a fruit-driven sparkling wine, it is a distinctive and highly gastronomic expression of Burgenland terroir.

Petrolo – Galatrona 2013 (93 TSW)

🍇 Variety: 100% Merlot.

🌍 Appellation: Valdarno di Sopra DOC, Tuscany, Italy – sourced from a single vineyard with clay, limestone and sandy soils, bringing together concentration, freshness and elegance.

⚱️ Vinification: Hand-harvested with rigorous grape selection. Fermentation takes place in concrete vats, followed by around 18 months of ageing in French oak barriques (approximately one-third new oak), adding structure and complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit.

🍇 Producer: Petrolo – one of Tuscany’s most iconic estates, led by Luca Sanjust and internationally acclaimed for crafting one of Italy’s greatest expressions of Merlot.

🪙 Price range: €130

🥂 In the glass, a deep ruby colour with remarkable density and youthful energy.

👃 On the nose, intensely layered with blackberry, blackcurrant and ripe plum, followed by violet, graphite, cedar, to***co and subtle notes of dark chocolate and espresso with a light earthy touch.

👅 On the palate, full-bodied and beautifully refined. The 2013 vintage combines ripe dark fruit with vibrant acidity and silky, perfectly integrated tannins. There is outstanding precision, freshness and minerality throughout, leading to a remarkably long and elegant finish.

🍖 Perfect with dry-aged ribeye, lamb shoulder, game dishes, osso buco, porcini risotto or aged hard cheeses.

👉 Overview: Galatrona 2013 is considered one of Italy’s benchmark Merlots and one of the finest Super Tuscans ever produced. A cooler, more classical vintage gives this wine exceptional tension, finesse and longevity while retaining its signature depth and concentration. A world-class wine with outstanding ageing potential.

A memorable press lunch at Les Salons, part of the Oostwegel Collection
at Château St. Gerlach celebrating two remarkable milestones: 250 years of Louis Roederer and 150 years of Cristal, hosted together with Dutch importer Walraven Sax

The occasion was marked by a selection of prestigious cuvées:

The highlight of the afternoon was undoubtedly Cristal 2016.

The 2016 vintage combines remarkable precision, purity and energy with impressive depth and finesse, showcasing why Cristal continues to be one of the world's most revered Champagnes.

An afternoon of absolute gastronomic perfection.

✨ Today, we had the privilege of being hosted by wine importer Verbunt Verlinden at the stunning 2-star Michelin restaurant GEM. in Kasteel Gemert.

The highlight of this incredible lunch? A side-by-side tasting of the brand-new Bollinger PN AYC 21 and its predecessor, the PN AYC 18. While the 2021 is beautifully crisp and full of youthful promise, the 2018 was my absolute favorite. It showed itself so much broader, more open, and incredibly complex in the glass today.

Paired with the masterfully spiced dishes of chef Soenil Bahadoer, it was a dining experience to remember. 🥂

⚱️ Vinification: Traditional method with extended lees ageing, Brut Nature style, focusing on purity, terroir expression and minimal intervention. Hand-harvested fruit and low yields contribute to concentration and finesse.

🍇 Producer: Cisteller – a small, artisan producer dedicated to crafting terroir-driven sparkling wines that highlight the identity of Corpinnat through sustainable viticulture and meticulous cellar work.
🪙 Price range: €35–50

🥂 In the glass a bright golden colour with a fine, persistent mousse and elegant bead.

👃 On the nose fresh yet complex, offering aromas of citrus zest, green apple and white peach, layered with fennel, Mediterranean herbs and delicate brioche notes from lees ageing.

👅 On the palate dry, precise and mineral-driven. Vibrant acidity carries flavours of lemon peel, orchard fruit and toasted almond, while a saline backbone provides tension and length. The finish is clean, focused and persistent.

🦪 Perfect with oysters, seafood, ceviche, Iberico ham or refined Mediterranean cuisine.

👉 Overview: Lucidity is a fitting name for this elegant Corpinnat. Combining purity, freshness and complexity, it showcases the modern face of high-quality Catalan sparkling wine. With its fine mousse, mineral precision and gastronomic versatility, it stands as a compelling alternative to far more expensive sparkling wines.
