De BRAFA Art Fair opent haar deuren voor het publiek van 26 januari tot en met 2 februari in de Brussels Expo. MixedGrill was op de preview en vertelt: "Kunstbeurs BRAFA in Brussel is dit jaar voor de 70ste keer. Deze mijlpaal wordt gevierd met een editie die vooral uitblinkt in het zeer brede aanbod vol met spannende verrassingen. BRAFA loves to share its passion for art - and alongside 130 extraordinary presentations by our international exhibitors, spanning centuries of art history and diverse styles, offers a series of daily lectures, the BRAFA Art Talks.

On 30 January 2025, art historian and journalist Cathelijne Blok (founder of art platform The TittyMag) will engage in a conversation with Sofie Van de Velde (gallery owner and BRAFA participant), Andrea Davina (director Niemeijer Fonds Foundation, advisor and art collector with a focus on women artists) and Femke Hameetman (director Dordrechts Museum, Huis Van Gijn, Regionaal Archief Dordrecht and the Hof van Nederland). The foursome will reflect on the place of women artists at art fairs and in museums and what gallery owners and curators do think about the status quo. Are female art collectors turning the art market around?

With just weeks to go, now is the time to plan your visit to the milestone edition of BRAFA's 70th anniversary! In addition to 130 exceptional presentations by our international exhibitors, spanning centuries of art history and diverse styles, BRAFA 2025 is proud to share its passion for art through the BRAFA Art Talks, a daily lecture series.

On Sunday 26 January 2025, we are honoured to welcome Leonore van Sloten, Senior Curator of the Museum Rembrandthuis, Amsterdam. She will give an exclusive preview of the upcoming exhibition Samuel van Hoogstraten - The Illusionist and share fascinating behind-the-scenes stories about this special project.

Although Samuel van Hoogstraten (1627-1678) received some recognition for his writings on art, which shed light on Rembrandt's philosophies, his artistic achievements have long remained in the shadow of his famous teacher. This exhibition, developed in collaboration with the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, seeks to rectify this and offers a long-awaited reappraisal of Van Hoogstraten's life and work.

BRAFA loves to share its passion for art - and offers, in addition to 130 exceptional presentations by our international exhibitors, spanning centuries of art history and diverse styles, a series of daily lectures, the BRAFA Art Talks.

On 29 January 2025, Brigitte Bloksma, director and curator of museum Beelden aan Zee, The Hague, will discuss the creation of the exhibition ‘Joan Miró - Sculptures’, the artist's sources of inspiration and his constant search for new ideas, materials and techniques.

Joan Miró broke artistic boundaries by combining painting and poetry, amongst other things. His Surrealist artworks abound in mysterious signs and symbols. Until March 2nd, 2025, the Beelden aan Zee Museum in The Hague presents Joan Miró – Sculptures, a unique retrospective organised in collaboration with the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona. The exhibition features 55 works, including plaster studies, ceramics, assemblages and monument commissions from six renowned museums and private collections.

NEWS - the ART COLOGNE 2024 exhibitor list is announced!

More than 175 galleries and dealers from 24 countries are awaited in Cologne in November +++ A strong increase in young galleries is noted.

ART COLOGNE will present a broad international offering of art for the 57th time. From 7 to 10 November 2024, the art fair will show art from around 175 selected galleries and dealers – more than in the previous year.

Strong growth has been especially registered in the NEUMARKT section, where 26 young and innovative galleries will present themselves this year. "I am very satisfied with this year's list for the NEUMARKT section. It is very international and offers new and young discoveries. That is the future!" Daniel Hug, Director and Artistic Head of ART COLOGNE, is pleased to announce.

The newcomers can be found on the four plazas in the corners of the hall, where they are optically emphasised by white carpets. This expansion makes clear the great interest of young galleries in participating in ART COLOGNE and underlines the importance of the art fair as the most important meeting point for galleries, collectors and art institutions in Germany.

This year, according to Hug, a strong interest on the part of galleries from Turkey can be felt: "Among the participants we have strong names like Zilberman, Anna Laudel and Sevil Dolmalci, but also Dirimart and Nev, who are new participants."

A strong continuity can be detected among the participating established galleries. Names with international charisma like Karsten Greve, Gisela Capitain, Thaddaeus Ropac, Sprüth Magers, EIGEN + ART, Max Hetzler, Daniel Buchholz and Nagel Draxler are once again represented at ART COLOGNE in 2024. Important Dutch and Belgian galleries like Ron Mandos from Amsterdam, Edouard Simoens and QG Gallery from Knokke will also be coming to Cologne in November. As are Filomena Soares from Lisbon and Neon Parc from Melbourne, who are returning to ART COLOGNE after a brief absence.

.. where the 69th BRAFA Art Fair is in full swing, welcoming you on a truly dizzying art journey, which will make your heart beat faster as soon as you arrive: a Magritte - or is it Delvaux - lady in white greets visitors from above, surrounded by clouds, only to be reached by stepping onto a floating train track 🤩 So the setting has already taken you in. Now to the 132 participants, who from early antiquity to contemporary art offer many, many finds in a delightful presentation. For this post, we have chosen the delightfully sleek De Stijl combination with Bob Bonies at Galerie van den Bruinhorst, the always beautifully attuned French modern masters stand at Galerie de la Présidence, the not-to-be-missed De Brock Gallery and equally unmissable perfectly balanced aesthetics at Axel Vervoordt, to golden dragoncatchers at Galerie Nicolas Cortes, a mask at Galerie Flak that will linger on your mind, a romantic stroke at Segoura Fine Art that will make you daydream as will that sweet little Wesselmann painting at Samuel Vanhoegaerden. Last but not least, a selfie with some fantastic fellow travellers.

💛 Bottom line: go visit if you can, you'll fall in love.

Deze BRAFA Art Fair editie in de Brussels Expo wil je zeker niet missen!

Niet alleen het decor is geweldig, volgens Tableau Fine Arts Magazine's Floris Kappelle staat de "Beurs met smaak" met "bekende namen en trouvailles" wederom garant voor "museale eyecatchers".

Open tot en met 4 februari.

Surrealisme: een typisch Belgisch fenomeen. Precies honderd jaar geleden gemunt als term voor een stroming in de moderne kunst. Om dat te vieren plaatst BRAFA Art Fair 2024, tot en met zondag 4 februari in Brussels Expo, een aantal nationale exponenten van deze stroming centraal.
