Flying a drone in Iceland was one of my dreams considering its beautiful landscape and the relative relax drone rules. So, we set out for a 2 weeks road trip in Iceland with a tent, a small car, and a drone. And the result of this road trip? Just take a look.

The is located in north-central Iceland between Akureyri and Húsavík and close to the small village of Fossholl. The waterfall is conveniently located along the ring road and hence is a place where many tourists will stop as there is a small parking lot next to the waterfall including a toilet or restroom. The waterfall is not very special, especially when you are driving the ring road and have seen so many other waterfalls. But due to its location, it's worth a stop.

Lake Mývatn is located in north-east Iceland and yet, that is on planet earth. Although, looking at the drone footage, one might think otherwise. Lake Mývatn feels and even smells like an place from a different planet! This is mainly because of the volcanic activity in this area. This results in beautiful colored geothermal area/pools and areas were steam arises from the ground. A very cool place to visit.

This video starts with the Myvatn Geothermal Area followed by the area near Hverfjall. The final shoots are from the Krafa. The latter is an volcanic area that has still a lot of volcanic activity going on. Walking in this area, you will feel like you are walking on a different planet. However, it is really earth.

This drone footage was shot at the different locations in Iceland. Essentially, it was our second day of the road trip going from Höfn to Hrafnavellir guest house with some stopes underway including in , , and . Most if these stops are just stops along road and are free. An exception is Stokksnes. Here you have to pay an fee to get in. The fee is not that high and gives you acces to some hiking trails in this area and an abandoned Viking village. While this is an Viking village it is actually a movie set that was abandoned and hence nog real Vikings every lived there.

This drone footage was shot at the volcano in Iceland. This volcano has been active in the 2021 when the erupted on the Reykjanes peninsula. While there was no eruption during our visit, there was still a lot of evidence of an recent eruption like the smell and the smoke rising from the lavafield. This lavafield can be found in the or Nátthaggi valley.

To reach this lavafield, you can use the parking lot close to the volcano and hike the trail to the lava field and the craters. The hike is relative easy although the weather can change very rapidly: From sunshine to rain in minutes. Also make sure that you check if the volcano is erupting. Unfortunately, the parking lot is not free, although the price is not very high.

The drowned land of Saeftinghe is a nature reserve in Zeeuws Vlaanderen (zeeland) at the border of The Netherlands and Belgium. The area is about 3850 ha in surface and is at the boundary between the salty water of the North Sea and the fresh water estuary of the Scheldt river or in Dutch also called the Westerschelde. This area of the Netherlands was ones the location of the four different villages namely Saeftinghe, Namen, Sint-Laureins en Casuwele and even a castle namely Saeftingher Slot. All these places were flooded in 1570 during the Allerheiligenvloed. After that, the villages never really recovered anymore and nature took over.

At the roof of the world, lays the Norwegian archipelago Svalbard, Spitsbergen or Spitzbergen: depending on where you live. While it appears to be close to the north pole, it is actually only halfway between the north pole and the northern coast of Norway. It lay's in the range from 74° to 81° north latitude. On Svalbard, approximately 60% of the land is covered by Glaciers. One of the Glaciers is closely to the main city of Svalbard: Longyearbyen.

Here, we have made an aerial view of the glacier near Longyearbyen. The drone footage was shot during a walk in which we searched for fossils with some luck. While we haven't seen the glacier before, based on its currently look, it is clear that the glacier is melting due to global warming.

Finally, a week long period of temperatures below zero and with ice that is thick enough it can only mean one thing: ice skating (Finally)! A very popular past time in the Netherlands for young and old! This is some of the beautiful drone footage we have made during this short winter period at the beginning of February the Máximapark in Leidsche Rijn. You will see the Anafora restaurant, het lint, the Japanese Garden, the high bridge in the park. And of course, a lot of children ice skating. For most of them, this will be the first time every on ice skates. However, most of them are doing great! Ice skating is probably something the Dutch have in their genes.
